My blood was thrumming as I hovered in front of the clinic. Everytime i pictured Elena’s small face, lifeless and cold as she laid on the bed, my heart lurched in my chest. She has to survive. My teeth ached from where I had been grinding down on them, fingers digging into my palms as I banged my fist against my temples. I can’t lose her too. It hurt, but it provided me temporary relief from my downward spiral. Elena is a fighter. She’ll pull through. I took a deep breath, calming my rapid breathing forcefully. “Erik!” My head snapped up, and my eyes narrowed at the older woman from earlier. She clearly knew who I was, yet I couldn’t remember encountering her, or even sniffing her scent. “We have news regarding your human. Come in.” I raced up the stairs, trailing behind her care
