📖 Chapter Two: Blood Runs Cold The horn shattered the dawn. Aurora bolted upright from her restless sleep, heart pounding. From the watchtower came the cry that froze every wolf in the camp: “Bloodfangs! At the border!” Her wolf stirred instantly. Him. The pull ripped through her chest, dragging her forward before she could think. By the time Aurora reached the training grounds, warriors were already arming themselves. Steel flashed, growls filled the air. Her father, Alpha Darius, towered above them all, his fury sharp enough to taste. “Stay out of this, Aurora,” he snapped, shoving past her. “You’ll obey me.” But the bond didn’t care about obedience. Her veins burned, leading her straight to the border. The Bloodfangs were waiting shadows carved from hate. And at their head, Kael. Their eyes locked. The bond roared alive, invisible chains yanking them together. Aurora’s breath hitched; Kael’s hands curled into fists like he’d rather rip the world apart than admit what bound them. “You dare step into my lands?” Darius growled. Kael’s jaw flexed. His voice was lethal calm. “Last night one of mine died. A Moonfang’s doing.” Aurora’s stomach dropped. No… he’s covering for me. Her father laughed darkly. “Then count him as nothing. One wolf less to bury.” Kael’s eyes flashed murder. For a heartbeat Aurora thought war would ignite here, now. Then “Leave the bodies,” Kael ordered his men, voice shaking with restrained violence. “This isn’t worth it. Yet.” The Bloodfangs turned to withdraw. Relief almost softened Aurora’s chest until Kael’s gaze snapped back to hers. Fierce. Possessive. Warning. Her pulse faltered. She knew that look. He wasn’t finished. Then, without warning, his voice sliced through the cold air: “She’s mine.” Every head whipped toward Aurora. Her father’s snarl ripped through the forest. “What did you just say?” Kael’s eyes never left hers. “You heard me.” The world tilted. Gasps spread like wildfire. And before Aurora could breathe before she could deny or confess Kael vanished into the trees with his pack, leaving devastation in his wake. Her father turned on her, eyes blazing with suspicion and rage. “What have you done, Aurora?”
