The Velvet Trap

1466 Words
Liam’s bare feet slapped against the cold marble of the east wing corridor, each step sending jolts of pain up his fragile legs. The body of Lord William was not built for this—narrow chest, weak lungs, a heart that fluttered like a trapped moth. Behind him, the screech of bending iron faded, replaced by the steady, unhurried click of Julian’s boots. The butler was in no rush. He never needed to be. The system text flickered again at the edge of Liam’s vision, cold and mocking. “Midnight Rule Active: Hunter’s Privilege. The pursued may hide, but the hunter may savor.” Savor. The word sent a fresh wave of dread and something darkerbthrough Liam’s veins. He skidded into the grand library, slamming the heavy oak doors behind him and dragging a velvet chaise against them for good measure. Moonlight spilled through tall arched windows, illuminating rows of leather-bound tomes that smelled of dust and old secrets. Liam had spent three days in this room as Lord William, pretending to read while actually memorizing every hidden passage and pressure plate the original story had described. His fingers found the third shelf from the left, fourth book from the right Obscura Noctis. He pulled it. A soft click, and a section of the bookcase swung inward. He slipped inside just as the library doors exploded inward. Julian stood framed in the wreckage, moonlight glinting off the sharp lines of his face. His black tailcoat was torn at one shoulder from the portcullis, revealing pale, sculpted muscle beneath. The amber glow in his eyes had deepened to molten gold. He inhaled deeply, nostrils flaring. “I can smell your fear, little archivist,” he murmured, voice like velvet dragged over gravel. “And something else… warmer.” Liam retreated down the narrow servant’s passage, heart hammering. The hidden corridor was tight, forcing him to turn sideways. Stone brushed his shoulders. He could hear Julian’s low chuckle echoing behind him, closer than it should have been. The passage opened into the master bedroom suite the very room Liam had fled at the start of the chapter. Heavy crimson drapes, a massive four-poster bed draped in black silk, and a fireplace that had not been lit in decades. Liam’s original bedroom had been destroyed, but this one remained untouched. A cruel joke of the plot. He darted toward the balcony doors, but strong arms caught him from behind. Julian moved like liquid shadow. One moment the room was empty; the next, Liam’s back slammed against a broad, hard chest. A gloved hand clamped over his mouth, the other pinning both of Liam’s wrists above his head against the carved bedpost. The butler’s body pressed flush against him tall, powerful, radiating unnatural heat. “Shhh,” Julian whispered directly into his ear, lips brushing the sensitive shell. “No more running. The clock has struck. Rules are gone.” Liam thrashed, but the body he inhabited was pathetically weak. Julian’s grip was iron. The contrast fragile mortal against immortal predator sent unwanted heat pooling low in Liam’s belly despite the terror. “You waited,” Liam gasped when the hand on his mouth loosened just enough. “You could have killed me days ago.” “I could have,” Julian agreed, voice husky. His free hand trailed slowly down Liam’s side, mapping the trembling curve of waist and hip through thin nightclothes. “But where is the fun in a quick death? I wanted to feel you break. Slowly.” Liam’s breath hitched as gloved fingers slipped beneath the hem of his shirt, tracing bare skin. The touch was deceptively gentle, almost reverent, yet laced with barely leashed violence. Julian’s thigh pressed between Liam’s legs, forcing them apart, holding him open. The system flashed again. “Erotic Tension Threshold Reached. Plot Branch Unlocked: The Hunter’s Claim.” Julian laughed softly, the sound vibrating through both their bodies. “Even the story wants this now.” Liam’s mind screamed to fight, but his body betrayed by adrenaline and weeks of suppressed tension responded. Heat flushed his skin. His breathing grew shallow as Julian’s hand explored lower, fingertips grazing the sensitive trail below his navel. “Stop” Liam started, but the word dissolved into a choked moan when Julian’s teeth grazed the side of his throat. Not breaking skin, not yet. Just enough pressure to remind him how easily the butler could tear him apart. “Stop?” Julian echoed, amused. He rocked his hips forward, letting Liam feel the hard length of his arousal pressing against his ass through their clothes. “Your pulse says otherwise, little bird. Racing. Wanting.” Liam hated how right he was. The fear had twisted into something electric, something the original novel had never dared explore. Julian had always been the perfect, restrained servant until midnight lifted every leash. With a swift motion, Julian spun him around and shoved him onto the massive bed. Liam landed on his back among silk sheets, staring up at the towering figure. Julian shed his torn coat, revealing a body honed by centuries broad shoulders, narrow waist, every line promising both pleasure and pain. He crawled over Liam like a predator, knees bracketing his hips. “You studied the blueprints,” Julian purred, pinning Liam’s wrists again. “But you never studied me.” He leaned down, capturing Liam’s mouth in a brutal kiss. It was nothing like tenderness. It was conquest tongue invading, teeth nipping, claiming. Liam tasted blood his own—and still arched into it, body burning. Julian’s hand worked between them, tearing open the front of Liam’s nightshirt. Buttons scattered across the floor. Cool air hit fevered skin, then Julian’s hot mouth followed, trailing down collarbone to n****e. He sucked hard, tongue flicking, while his fingers found the waistband of Liam’s trousers and shoved them down. Liam gasped, hips jerking involuntarily as Julian’s bare hand wrapped around his hardening c**k. The touch was firm, strokes deliberate and teasing. “Look at you,” Julian murmured against his sternum. “So fragile. So ready to be ruined.” He sat back, stripping away the rest of his own clothing with inhuman speed. Naked, Julian was magnificent pale skin glowing in moonlight, c**k thick and heavy, curving upward. Liam’s mouth went dry. Julian noticed. His smile sharpened. “On your stomach.” When Liam hesitated, Julian flipped him effortlessly, pressing his chest into the mattress. A strong hand gripped his hip, pulling him up onto his knees. Liam felt exposed, vulnerable, trembling. Cool fingers, slicked with something from the bedside table—oil meant for lamps, perhaps pressed against his entrance. Julian worked him open with ruthless patience, one finger, then two, curling just right until Liam was whimpering into the sheets, pushing back despite himself. “Beg,” Julian commanded, voice dark velvet. Liam shook his head, but another stroke against that spot inside him tore a broken “Please” from his throat. Julian replaced his fingers with the blunt head of his c**k. He pushed in slowly, inch by inch, stretching Liam open until the burn blurred into overwhelming fullness. When he was fully seated, hips flush against Liam’s ass, he paused, letting him adjust. Then the real hunt began. Julian f****d him hard deep, punishing thrusts that rocked the heavy bed against the wall. One hand fisted in Liam’s hair, the other braced beside his head. The slap of skin, Liam’s desperate moans, Julian’s low growls filled the room. “You’re mine now,” Julian panted, angling to hit that perfect spot with every stroke. “Not the story’s. Not Lord William’s. Mine.” Liam came first, sudden and shattering, spilling across the ruined sheets with a cry. Julian followed moments later, burying himself deep and flooding him with heat, teeth sinking into Liam’s shoulder just enough to draw blood. They collapsed together, sweat-slick and panting. Julian remained inside him, arms caging him possessively. The system text appeared once more, softer this time. “Plot Twist Registered: The Archivist’s Surrender. New chapter branch stabilized.” Julian chuckled against his neck, licking the small wound he’d made. “See? Even the narrative knows you belong under me.” Liam lay boneless, body aching in the best and worst ways. Fear still coiled in his gut, but so did something new dark fascination. The chase wasn’t over. Midnight rules had only just begun. Outside, the grandfather clock struck one. Julian’s amber eyes glowed in the dark as he rolled Liam beneath him again, already hardening once more. “Ready for round two, little rabbit?” he whispered. “We have all night… and the entire estate is watching.” Liam closed his eyes, heart racing, as the hunter claimed his prize again.
