CHAPTER 13 Dawn’s first light streamed around the edges of the heavy curtains, casting a warm glow in the otherwise darkened room. Small glints of light reflected from the mirror on the far side of the room, bringing Alec’s attention to a slumbering figure wrapped in a blanket, and bathed in darkness. His stomach churned, aware of only snippets of the last few days through fevered sleep and forced shifting. He knew his mind had been drifting in and out of consciousness at first, but he soon realised his times of greatest awareness were when Jesse had been sitting beside him, her hand upon his, or softly stroking his fur. He closed his eyes. He remembered everything now, about how he had severed an integral part of his soul to protect her when he realised his binding ritual was upon him.
