I sat on the bench in the flower garden, watching Liam tend to the flowers. He crouched low, watering each one with such care it made me smile. He spoke softly to them, as though the delicate blossoms could understand him. I’d tried—really tried—to push Lisa’s words out of my mind since morning. But they kept echoing, stubborn and loud, refusing to fade. “You’ll watch him sleep with another woman.” I clenched my hands together on my lap, staring blankly ahead. I didn’t want to believe her.
