Chapter 5: The North

1535 Words
As Calypso exited Alpha Hadeon’s cabin, she could feel a piece of her heart being detached. It was difficult for her to process what was going on because of the immense emotional distress that she was in. What she was experiencing was beyond a nightmare; it was hell. Being silently taken away by a mysterious man to a place she had only heard tales of was a horrible fate for a person, and unfortunately, it was hers. Beta Nylon quietly led Calypso through the thick snow. Escaping wasn’t even an option because she had nowhere else to go. After a short while of walking, the two finally came to a stop in front of a large black vehicle; its tires were massive, and its body looked impenetrable. Calypso had never seen one so big and efficient; it left her in awe. “Your carriage awaits, my lady”, Beta Nylon finally addressed her, and the words he used left her stunned. The large car door opened, and another man, who looked a little younger than Beta Nylon, stepped out. Compared to his companions, his chestnut-colored hair was far shorter; his facial features were also softer than Beta Nylon’s. That was because of the warmth in his brown eyes. “How’d it go, is she...?” the young man immediately asked with great enthusiasm “Yup”, Beta Nylon casually answered as he moved past the young man and directed Calypso to the vehicle. “You’re sure? Cause Alpha Val will be really pissed if-” A cautionary look from Beta Nylon stopped the young man from continuing his sentence. He stopped for a moment, then went on. “Sorry” Calypso looked at the young man beside her. She did not feel any dark energy coming from him; instead, he emitted a sort of friendly warmth that she hadn’t felt in years. Despite this, she still kept her distance because he was still a stranger. “Forgive my companion, he’s a little too excited,” Beta Nylon said to Calypso “Yeah, sure, excited,” he repeated nervously, “I’m Jax, it’s nice to meet you.” “Is it? No one ever says that to me,” Calypso blandly responded. Beta Nylon and Jax looked at one another for a moment. The situation quickly became awkward, but Calypso wasn’t sorry about it. “We- uh, we should get going... there’s a long journey ahead of us,” Jax spoke and broke the awkward silence Silently backing up his companion’s statement, Beta Nylon opened the car door for Calypso and waited for her to get in. Calypso took one last deep breath of the cold air in the South and got into the vehicle. What would happen from then on, she did not know. ~*~ As Jax had said, the journey was indeed long, and Calypso spent most of it silently looking out the car window. Nothing much was said by the two men in the driver’s and passenger seats either. From what Calypso could see, they both looked lost in thought, which caused her to remember what the younger man had said about their Alpha being very upset if she wasn’t the ‘one’. The Alpha of the North was a mysterious figure that Calypso had only heard myths about. The first time she heard about him, she was a naïve teenager who believed all the tales she was told. But now, as an adult, she wondered if they were true or just stories made up to scare people into submission. To find out the truth, she swallowed her fear and finally opened her mouth to speak. “Can I... ask a question?” she nervously inquired “Ah, she finally speaks”, Beta Nylon responded “I didn’t have much to say, but now I do... if that’s okay” “Knock yourself out” The nonchalance in his tone surprised Calypso; she wasn't used to it. “Thank you...” she expressed her gratitude, then moved on, “It’s about your Alpha.” “Go on” “It’s just... I know nothing about him except the stories I was told when I was younger, and I’m sure he knows nothing about me. Why, then, did he request me in exchange?” Beta Nylon took a moment to consider her question. It was obviously because he was choosing his words. It’s not quite accurate to say he knows nothing about you. Alpha Valric is aware of you and has been looking for you for quite some time now. Calypso looked at Beta Nylon with great surprise. “He knows about me, and he’s been searching for me? But how, and why?” “We can’t explain much to you...at the moment,” Jax pitched in, “All we can say is, you’ll get all your answers when you finally meet him.” A heavy sigh unintentionally escaped her lips and made it known that she was irritated. “Didn’t Alpha Hadeon fill you in on the matter?” Beta Nylon asked. “If he did, I wouldn’t be asking. No one told me anything. I didn’t know I was being exchanged until today.” Beta Nylon and Jax looked at one another; they said nothing, but it was clear they thought the same. “Which means...” Beta Nylon said, “You also don’t know the reason for your exchange with Jadeite.” “Ding” “Wow! They really hate you around there,” he casually remarked. “What gave it away?” Jax turned in his seat to look directly at Calypso. He wore a warm smile on his lips that, strangely, made her feel at ease. “Well, you don’t have to worry about that where we’re going; wanna know why?” he beamed with excitement “Why?” “Because in the North, we’re too busy being hated by the rest of the land to hate each other.” Calypso blinked, “I’m sorry?” “Things work differently where we come from, just wait and see,” Beta Nylon pitched. Jax playfully winked at Calypso before facing the front. Confused by the entire conversation, she returned to looking out the window and was shocked by the drastic change in scenery. Darkness covered the road ahead despite the sun not setting yet; if it weren’t for her night vision, she wouldn’t have been able to see anything. Trees as tall as the sky itself stretched out ahead and lined up along the icy road like a fence, and a heavy fog covered everything in sight. “Welcome to your new home”, said Beta Nylon as they drove deeper into the darkness, but Calypso was having a hard time accepting his hospitality. ~*~ The car finally came to a stop in front of a large cabin, which was bigger than any Calypso had ever seen in her life. Built from a combination of dark cypress wood and granite, the building looked like a fortress that could keep anyone safe. Calypso exited the car and slowly approached the building, which seemed even bigger when she was standing close to it. Beta Nylon and Jax joined her shortly after and looked in the direction she was looking. “What do you think?” asked Jax “It’s magnificent”, Calypso responded “Glad you like it, cause you’ll be staying here from now on”, Beta Nylon casually dropped the biggest bomb on Calypso’s head “Huh?” Jax and Beta Nylon moved toward the front door and waited for Calypso to join them, but she was frozen in place. “I’m going to be staying...” she pointed to the building, “here? For real?” “I know you’re quite shocked, considering where you just came from, but yes, this is going to be your new home,” Beta Nylon explained “And we’d better get inside before we freeze our butts off, the cold in the North is different from what you're used to,” Jax warned. Listening to the warning, Calypso rushed forward to join the men, and all three walked into the cabin. The interior was even more magnificent than the exterior. Calypso’s mouth instinctively went agape; she could not hide how in awe she was of everything. From the ceiling to the floors, to the furniture, and even the door handles, every item in the room showed how wealthy the owner of the cabin was. As Calypso was admiring the unique decorations made from different gemstones, a tall young woman with beautiful gray eyes and long blonde hair walked into the room. She immediately locked eyes with Beta Nylon and approached him. “You’re back”, she said in a low yet excited tone “We are, and we have company,” he responded while pointing at Calypso. The young woman turned to look at Calypso, and a gentle smile formed on her lips as she approached her. “You are Calypso, right, the Alpha’s new mate?” she innocently asked Calypso’s eyes widened at the question; her brain could not process what she had just heard.
