Playing Games

You lied?

Maria left Andrew and headed to meet the rest of the team, they ran out in front of the cheering crowd waving their pom poms and dancing. After cheering their first two routines and getting the crowd going the boys ran out. 

The crowd went wild and the guys took to the pitch, it was clear to Maria that the team was strong. She understood why there was so much interest in Chase, he was a phenomenal player and lethal on the field. By the end of the first half the guys were winning, it was obvious it would be a landslide.  

As much as she hated to admit it, Maria understood everyone’s hesitance at confronting Chase about his behaviour. The huge crowd meant people were seeing the team and the cheerleaders. When the girls took a break, Andrew came to greet her, wrapping his arms around her waist she sunk back against him. It was crazy how her body reacted to his. She had missed him.

Maria turned to face him, he told her how amazing she was, ‘honestly Maria I’m the luckiest guy in the world’ he kissed her cheek, ‘I should get back out there’ she said, regretfully but he smiled, ‘oh I don’t know about that, I have a feeling there might be a delay’ she looked at him, ‘what did you do?’ her heart sank. But before he had a chance to speak, they were interrupted. Everything happened so quickly.

Chase flew at Andrew from behind, Maria was knocked down herself and Chase paused. He slowly sauntered over to her, as he was about to help her up Andrew hit Chase from behind. It didn’t take long for Chase to recover, turning he kicked Andrew in the stomach, then on the side of his leg. 

Maria was in shock. Mona had told her what Chase was like in a fight, she had seen it at the swim meet herself, but it was still scary. He was slow, taking his time, sweat beading down his face as he punched at Andrew who was striking back. It couldn't have been longer than a minute, but everything seemed to slow. Reacting finally, she pulled at his arm, "stop, Chase stop please stop!" she cried out.

They were both bleeding now. Chase ignored her though. He was much stronger than she was, she kept trying to pull him away, 'Chase you're going to kill him stop it, for god sakes stop it' she was screaming.

Finally, she threw herself in-between them, Chase paused as she stood in his way, smirking his hand dropped to his side. It was his smirk that did it. Forgetting how scary it was that he could change so quickly she shoved his chest.

Trying to push him back but he just stood there, grabbing her wrists she tried to free them, pulling her against him she could feel his heart racing. Sweat on his chest from the beating he had given Andrew, but she met his eye, looked straight at him. Not trying to dull the look of disgust and hatred on her face.

He stood looking at her, it felt like hours but was only seconds, finally he said to her, 'the next time your boyfriend does anything to f**k up my game I’ll kill him.' She struggled to pull away, but he held on tightly, 'I'm not joking Maria, repeat it back to me, so I know you can tell him'.

After a few more seconds of trying to pull away she gave in, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about he hasn’t done anything,' he c****d his head looking at her, ‘Oh sweetheart, your boyfriend tried to tell a scout that I’m on f*****g steroids. Not only are they illegal but any f*****g whiff and I lose interest.' She stopped and stared at him a moment, he was still holding her, he could feel her heartbeat from her wrist. She turned to look at Andrew, ‘Andrew?’ she posed it as a question. 

He was leaning against the wall, out of breath, he only nodded, not quite meeting her eye. Seeing this admission of guilt, she turned to Chase, ‘the game will start soon, let’s just leave this for now’ she tried to reason. He looked at her hard for a moment then finally he nodded, ‘for now’ it was clearly a threat.

She turned with tears in her eyes and looked at Andrew, ‘why would you do that?’ she asked him, ‘why the f**k should he get away with what he did’ Andrew shot back before stalking off.
