|CHAPTER 10|
|Keep the harsh words coming|
"Oh come on, it can't be that bad. You're probably just overanalyzing the whole thing," Veronica speaks through the phone, making me let out an un-audible sigh. Shutting my eyes in frustration that she doesn't even know the half of what's going on and the whole story.
It's not like I didn't want to tell her, it's just that I couldn't. Adriano even said until this missions over, I'm not aloud to go too into depth onto what I'm doing and why.
Hell, I can't even tell her about who my dad use to be and what really happened to him.
"Uh yeah, you're probably right. I'm just being over dramatic," I say after taking a large inhale of air. It's really hard to talk and not let everything slip out while I'm talking to her. I mean she's my best friend for goodness sakes. How in the hell am I supposed to not just blurt out all of my problems to her in one sitting?
"See, one step closer to acceptance. Which will come in handy while getting over that asshole of an ex you once called a boyfriend." My eyes go wide at the fact that I forgot to tell her about the whole going over to Ryan's madness.
"Yeah, about that, I kinda wentoverthereandforgavehimaboutthewholething," I say so quickly that I hope she doesn't here a word I said. But of course, a friend you've known for years will obviously be able to understand the words you say, even if it does sound like a chihuahua on c***k. Expressed exactly by the loud gasp on the other side of the phone.
"YOU WHA-"
That's all I hear before taking my phone away from my ear due to the door getting shoved open by, you guessed it, Adriano.
"Hey, there's something important we need to discuss about the mission. Come downstairs ASAP." His expression then turns from charged to quizzical the moment he here's the faint yelling from my cell phone, in return giving him a small smile.
"Bad time?" He ask jokingly with a smirk, pointing at my phone as if he knew what was going on and got a total kick out of it.
"No! And I'll be down there in a second, just wait!" I yell quietly as to not disturb the beast on the other side of the phone, making Adriano let out a muffled guffaw before shutting the door behind him as he left. Putting the phone back to my ear I winced before finally cutting her off from her ramble.
"Look, I know you're upset and all, but I gotta deal with something. Scold me later, bye!" I yell over her before ending the call and flailing my head back onto the pillow. With a second to recoil my sanity after that call, I finally pull myself up and off of the bed before starting to make my way down the stairs. I actually loath the guest room on the second floor, but it's not like the homeless girl is gonna complain.
Starting to edge my way down, a group of people surrounding the TV comes to my vision before finally making it all the way down to see its a group of men looking at a very complex diagram of a map planned out on the TV. Right as my feet hit the ground of the first story, the main boss with salt and pepper hair that I saw the first trip to the SSOJ building. A smile growing on his lips before finally acknowledging my presence.
"Ah, so the Petrov finally decided to join the party," he says gesturing towards my direction, making everyone that was sitting on the couch eyes wander over to me. And for the person that was speaking stop what he was saying to do as the others. My cheeks tint pink before slowly starting to make my way towards the living room. Realizing that the person that was speaking was Adriano, I let out a relieved sigh before finally taking a seat to the sofa closest to him, and farthest from anyone else.
It's not that I want to be close to him for personal reasons, it's just that I was never the outgoing type of person all around, and these people definitely don't seem like the most comforting group of friends. Less like people you would have a cup of coffee with, and more the people you would see being a body guard for freaking Justin Bieber.
Adriano then puts his hand on my back, making me look up at him to see he's lifting an eyebrow in question to ask what's the matter. In return getting a head shake from me.
"Well, now that we're all here, we need to discuss the people we're going up against, and where we are on the whole situation," he says looking back up to the crowd of people and starting to pace a bit. Pointing at a certain type of list of names, he begins to explain in detail about the whole plan.
"These are the list of names of the people we are in need of termination. This isn't even the beginning onto where we start to head in and get the main guy we need. In order to stop all of the s*x trafficking and drug smuggling going on in the other continents and transferring everywhere around the world, we need to start at the top. And the top starting with this man right here," he says before pulling up a digital picture of a man with longish blonde hair, an average guy you'd probably see at a grocery store or such.
"If we can get this man, we don't have to worry about any of the other people in need of termination. This man is currently in San Fransisco right now, and we need to get him before he leaves the country totally. If we can get him, we can finish this mission with time to spare." He goes to the other side of the screen before turning it off, concluding the slideshow part of the meeting.
"And in conclusion of this whole meeting with all of you, I would like you all to meet, Luna Rose Petrov; the daughter of Jared Petrov. As you all know to be the first and only assassin to go down in history for his line of work." He says after standing me up in front of all the people, giving them a small smile in generosity. It not like I'm just gonna stand there like a statue. There was a moment of just people muttering to each other before someone finally said something, but not something along the lines of anything we were talking about.
"Wait, so you finally got yourself a girl? I thought you'd never get over-"
"Enough! Stop jumping to conclusions. And we do not talk about personal issues while on the job, understood? Don't slip up again Hades!" I freeze in my spot, surprised he got so offensive when the man was about to say what he was initially gonna say. What could be so bad, so horrendous that happened in his life where he doesn't even want people to bring it up?
The men don't do anything but go completely silent. And in response to Adriano, Hades just throws his hands up in the air as a sign of protest.
"Glad we got that all sorted out. You men are dismissed," he states aloud, immediately making the men stand up before slowly starting to leave the house one by one. Adriano holding the door open to insure that everyone got out without a catch. But while I was waiting by the stairs for everyone to leave, I feel a hand on my shoulder, in which made me turn around to be greeted by the same shaggy haired blonde with brown eyes I met the first day on the mission.
"Hey, Luna, right? Even though he literally just said it a few seconds ago," the guy I remember as Blake says as he puts his hand out for me to shake, making me chuckle at he's attempt of an ice breaker that actually worked pretty damn well. Taking his hand, I nod in conformation before shaking it.
"Yes, and I remember you as Blake. Boss seemed kind of a hard ass on you that day," I say in a playfully serious tone, making Blake suck air through his teeth dramatically at the memory of that day.
"Yeah, not my finest introduction ever. So let's start over. Hi, names Blake J. Halts."
"Luna Rose Petrov, as I'm pretty sure you've already heard over a thousand times already." I then close my eyes and shake my head in embarrassment at how conceded that probably sounded, immediately wanting to crawl in a hole at being so awkward so early in a conversation.
"I'm sorry, that probably sounded really self centered the way I put it into context. What I meant wa-" Getting cut off by Blake's chuckles before finally hearing him speak again.
"Please, there's absolutely no need to apologize for something like that. I may seem like the social type, but I'm actually pretty awkward when it comes to meeting and being introduced to new people," he says making me feel a lot better about my anti social behavior. Looking at his pretty boy features, I notice there's a dimple on his right cheek, making me chuckle at the innocence of it.
"And what are we discussing over here?" I hear Adriano say from behind me before feeling his hand touch my shoulder on my left side, making me roll my eyes at the fact he's ruining the first chance at me meeting someone new.
"We're just discussing about the club party me, you and a few of guys are going to next weekend. And I was just asking if Luna would be down to go as well?" He says looking at Adriano before looking at me with a smirk, throwing me the inside question right there. Feeling a bit panicked, I open my mouth and don't say anything but instead, just let air out.
"But you wouldn't have to worry, because I'd be watching her and making sure she was okay at all times," he says looking at Adriano, but still side eyeing me a bit. But before I could reply saying yes, I feel I slight tug before realizing I'm being pulled a bit more behind Adriano.
"I don't think that would be a safe decision knowing the club we're going to," he says bluntly with a bit of edge to his to work, making anger begin to boil in my veins at the fact he's still making decisions for me.
"I don't think you can play the protective brother on this one, Capo. She's gonna have to make her own decision on this scenario," he says before beginning to walk towards the door, but not before stopping to the side of me.
"Here's my card if your bodyguard won't take you," he says with a chuckle as he hands me his business card that had all of his work information on it, but his personal number written in hand on this specific one. He sends me a wink before walking away and out the door, leaving me with a smile on my face as I think about the fact I finally have a friend to talk or go to when need be.
I then feel the tug at the card getting ripped out of my hands, making me look up with a quizzical look on my face to see Adriano of course being the one who did so.
"You do not need this because you're not going," he says before walking to his room, making me immediately follow on his tail.
"We are seriously not doing this again, Nightmare," I say as I follow him to his room. And immediately as I step foot into his room, he turns around with a smirk playing on his face, making me give him a questioning glare before finally speaking.
"What?"
"You called me Nightmare."
"And? I-I always call you Nightmare," I stutter, remembering I haven't called him that since we first met weeks ago, only making his smirk grow wider.
"You and I both know we've been going by first names basis lately," he says in a knowing tone, getting an eye roll out of me in response.
"That's because you've been a total possessive asshole lately; exhibit A," I say gesturing up and down towards him, holding back the smirk at his facial reaction.
"Maybe, but you're definitely not going to this club party."
And here we go again...
"Look, Adriano. Me doing this is not going to affect you or the mission in any sort of way. So with that being said." I snatch the card out of his hand before trying to walk out of the room, and of course, I get stopped when I get barricaded in the room by Adriano's arms.
"You sure are damn stubborn, aren't you?"
"It's one of my lovely qualities," I say with a fake smile before trying to move out of his way again, and of course getting blocked once again.
"Adriano!"
"Luna!"
I let out a groan at his childish antics before running my hands through my hair in frustration. But then a lightbulb goes off, making my eyes light up with the idea that came to mind.
"Oh God, I know that look. This is gonna end badly, isn't it?" He says in an actual worrisome tone, making my eyebrow arch in mischief. Getting closer, I look him up straight into his blue eyes before saying it.
"You tell me about why you got so offensive back there when that man talked about you moving on, and I'll give you this card with no hesitation." His facial expression immediately goes from playful and curious to one of pure tragedy.
Maybe this was a bad compromise.
"That's uh, none of your business, Luna. So please, let's move on," he says quickly, as if he were a ticking time bomb about to explode if I said one more wrong thing.
"Hey, I never mean't to hit a soft sp-"
"Please just get out." Confused and shocked at his words, I back up a bit as my mouth goes a bit agape.
"What?"
"I said get out! For once in your life do as you're told! I don't even know how your mom even dealt with you after your father died?!" Stoic, I freeze in my spot. The tears begin to well in my eyes at the harsh words he said. I'm usually not one to cry a lot, but he knows exactly where to hit me where it hurts. Told by the expression of guilt on his face, he knew exactly where he hit me too.
"God damn it, Luna. I didn't me-" he says trying to reach out for me, but I immediately pull away from him before cutting him off.
"Yeah! You never do, do you?!" I yell before throwing the card at him and running out of the room in a heap of tears. Knowing I've probably looked like a total baby with all the crying I've done in the last three weeks.
Almost falling down the stairs in my blurred vision state, I finally make it to my room before shutting the door and falling onto my bed.
'God, I'm acting like I'm a freaking hormonal teenager again,' I mutter to myself before rapping myself in my sheets and beginning to doze off.
Almost completely asleep, I quickly wake up to the sound of my door quietly opening. But knowing it was Adriano coming in. I fake asleep so I won't have to face him, because right now, I know I wouldn't be able to look him in the eye.
Hearing his footsteps start to make a slow and leisure appearance up to my bed, my heart begins to thump more rapidly the closer he gets. Until his feet stop directly in front of my bed, then making me almost want to say I'm awake at the feel of his hand tuck a strand of hair behind my ear before getting an inch before my face.
"I'm so sorry, fiore." Is the last thing I hear before feeling both of his hands on each side of my face, and lastly feeling a pair of soft lips be placed on my forehead in a gentle manner.
I take a deep breath in once I hear the gentle sound of the door closing.
Well that's surely gonna help my restlessness.
'Might as well take a shower and get ready for bed while there's still some daylight,' I said to myself hoping that a shower will do me some good before dragging myself up and out of bed.
• • •
"Wake up, Luna. I have to show you something," I hear a voice say before feeling a shaking. Looking up, I see a blurry Adriano looking down at me.
"What? Why? What time is it?" I ask groggily while sitting up and rubbing the sleep out of my eyes, making my vision even more blurry in the process.
"It's like around two. Now get your ass up because I need to show you something," he says making me look at my phone to show me that it's 2:20 AM. Starting to slowly get out of bed by sitting on the edge, I give him a confused look.
"Are you insane? Why are you waking me up a-" I try to say, but before I could even finish, I feel Adriano tug me up and before I knew it, we were making our way outside. But not before I feel a pair of warm hands go over my eyes, confused, I still chuckle a bit at the reality of this.
"I'll lead the way, just walk," I hear him whisper in my ear, making goosebumps arise at the feel of his warm breath on my ear. Slowly walking out, I listen to Adriano's every instruction before finally hearing him say, 'stop,' and to, 'keep my eyes shut'.
"Seriously, Adriano? What is all this about?"
"Open your eyes to find out." And at that, I open my eyes to see a Red BMW in the driveway, making my eyes go wide and all drowsiness disappear.
"This-This isn't for m-"
"Yes, Fiore. It's for you," he says rolling his eyes, acting as if he were no big deal he were giving me a freaking brand new car. And a one so high up on the food chain at that. I begin to start laughing, making him look at me with a questioning look on his face before I finally spoke.
"You really are insane. I can't take this Adriano. You're trying to give a girl who has spent her whole life being dirt poor something worth more than everything she was ever given in her whole childhood put together. I couldn't even take an expensive charm bracelet, let alone a ca-"
"Would you please be quiet, I'm trying to explain to you the situation. And if you want me to take the car back after I do, then I will, that okay?" He ask in an amiable tone, making me think about for a second before sighing in defeat.
"Okay."
"Okay, so that other crappy car you had that was about to get repossessed for being in the apartment parking lot of your friends complex for so long, I kind of traded that car in for this one, so this car didn't cost anything." Looking as confused as ever onto how those cars were even remotely close to the same price.
"Why you may ask? And here is your answer... I know people, and those people at the car shop gave it to me no problem since we're kinda like cousins. Bringing you this brand new car in front of your eyes," he says in finality, making me not help but chuckle at his playful attitude.
Hugging myself tightly since I'm in my sleeping clothes, I begin to slowly make my way up to him before finally wrapping my arms around his waist. Hesitantly, he hugs me back, in shock at my graceful and outgoing gesture. After a few more minutes, I finally pull away and look at him and say words he probably would've never guessed I'd say.
"Please, take it back and get my other car back," I say with a thankful smile on my face, making his facial expression turn to one of pure confusion and shock.
"I know a bunch of normal girls would've probably drooled over this, and as much as I am right now, I can't take it. I'm not a normal girl, and a fan of loving memories, not luxury. But thank you, Nightmare." I see a glint of disbelief in his eye shine bright, rendered speechless I presume. Until finally, he spoke.
"Fine, I will. Under one condition." I cork an eyebrow in mischief.
"And what is that?"
"Since tomorrow is Saturday, and we both have the day off from training, I get to take you out on a normal everyday date. As friends of course," he makes sure to add that in, making me not help but smile at this new side of Adriano. But the smile quickly falls at the thought onto How long this will last.
"But... Why are you doing all of this?" I ask in genuine curiosity, making his smile fall as well. He gets closer before finally getting to where I could see the size of his pupils.
"Because I've been a total d**k this past almost month, and I realized that today I can't just keep putting up walls between everyone I... Well come in contact with." He puts his hands on my shoulder before finishing his sentence.
"So with that being said, will you do this jackass a huge favor and have a girls day out tomorrow?" he says immediately making me c***k up with laughter.
"How could a girl shoot down a face that cute?" I say before pinching his cheeks, making him smile before putting his hands in his jeans pocket. Pulling out one of his hands for me to shake it in conformation.
"So it's a deal?"
"It's a deal," I say before shaking his hand. Feeling something in it, I look to see a folded small piece of hard paper. But before I could ask what it was, he walks away with the smile he still had on his face.
"Goodnight! Get in before the street lights turn on!" He yells out, making me chuckle at a mom thing to say before turning my attention back to the paper. Slowly opening it, I couldn't help but grin widely at the card Blake gave me earlier, and laugh at comment Adriano wrote on the back of it.
3 RULES...
1. I drive you, not Blake.
2. I get to stalk you at all time.
3. Have fun ;)
And you could bet that night I got almost no sleep.
