|CHAPTER 13| |Princess and the Unknown | "How in the hell did Veronica do this?" I say while trying to put on a decent amount of eyeshadow. I literally try to put on the bare minimum when coming to makeup, due to the fact I'm not trying to make myself look like one of those girls with pounds of cake on their face. Not to take it personally, but I just feel kind of fake and not myself when layers of my face is covered to not even reveal my actual face anymore. After the thousandth time poking and prodding my eyes out, I decide what I had on was enough and put all my contraptions up before making my way down stairs. Getting to the bottom, I see that Adriano is no where in sight. "Adriano, are you ready?!" I raise my voice in hopes to get his attention, but get no response. I start to walk around to see if he could be anywhere hidden around the house. Taking a good five minutes to look around, I'm thrown off when I hear a buzzing coming from my hand. Looking to see it was a text from an unknown number, I give the phone a quizzical stare before opening the text to see it was a text from Adriano. Hey, it's Adriano. I had to take care of some early business down at the bar club we're going to. I'll see you there soon, okay? Just ask a coworker to take you, thanks. Sorry, bye. Glaring at the phone, I didn't know whether to cry out of anger, or curse Adriano's ass out when I got the the club. Maybe he had a good explanation, but what could be so damn important where he couldn't even wait to take me. Nevertheless, the text seemed kind of dubious itself. Especially considering I thought I had him in my contacts already. Shaking every ounce of doubt I had, I concluded he probably just used someone else's phone or something because his died. I mean, it's Adriano, his whole existence is a big question mark. I was about to run to get my keys since I most likely wouldn't be drinking anyway, but stop when I remember my piece of crap car broke down earlier in the week and is in the shop. Letting out a shaky breath from the seething anger I was feeling, I remember the card Blake gave me. Quickly, I run up to the room before stealing the card from my drawer and typing in the number.  One ring, two rings. On the third ring, I hear a gruff voice answer on the other side. "Ciao." "Hi, Blake, this is Luna. You probably don't remember me but if you do, I'd still like to take you up on that chauffeur offer." I say in a hurry, making a long pause stand on the other side of the phone. "I'm sorry, I don't know who this Blake guy is," the man on the other side of the phone says, making my heart stop in its tracks. "Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry. This guy gave me his numb-" I'm quickly cut off to hear a loud laughter come from the other side of the call, making me frown in confusion. "You sure are one gullible girl, now aren't you? And yes, I'll be there in ten, I'm leaving now anyway so it works out good," he says while still chuckling, my heart beginning to go back to its regular speed once again. "Okay great, see you then," I say before hanging up. Too mad at Adriano to even be upset at Blake's joke of the night. Going outside, I sit on the curb with my hand resting on my cheek with my elbow propped on my leg while kicking the dirt under my shoes. Not even ten minutes go by when I see the beaming headlights pull up in the driveway. Standing up, I adjust myself before making my way towards the silver BMW. Does every man that works in this business have a high in car?  I quickly get in when I see Blake open the door from me from the drivers side.  "You know, I could've been some killer pulling into your driveway right now. Well, serial killer anyway," he says before smirking and beginning to pull out of said driveway. A small smile appears on my face at his lame attempt of breaking the ice. "As that how you start off with every girl you pick up on a date? Because keep going, it's a total turn on," I say while nudging him playfully with my face wince in one of fake disgust. Glancing at me with his lips in a smirk, he runs one hand through his dirty blonde hair before letting out a chuckle. "No, you know most girls just don't fine people who kill people for a living very attractive. So I tend to keep to the old cliche dude-on-a-date philosophy." I roll my eyes at his sarcasm, but can't help the grin slip up in the meanwhile. There was a comfortable silence for a good ten seconds before I finally break it. "Hey, thanks for driving me tonight, I really appreciate it. I know you probably would rather take some girl you pick up at the bar bac-" "Hey," he says with a chuckle, cutting me off before continuing. "Don't worry about it. You're a very sweet girl and I'm more than happy to help out a friend." The sweet comment making me grin widely, I look over to see his dirty blonde hair curled in his eyes a bit as he continues to drive ahead. "Thanks, at least some friend was willing to help me," I mumble the last part, more to myself than aloud. "Oh God, what did s**t head boss do now?" He ask in frustration, making my expression turn to one of amusement while I begin to play with my fingers in my lap. "Nothing really, just totally ditched me for some 'early job' assignment that was told for him to do at the club." He turns to give me a confused look before turning back to the road with the same expression. "Early job assignment? I didn't hear anything about a job assignment," he says in genuine confusion, making me follow his lead. "Well, I don't know. He's the definition of confusion so I'm not questioning it," I say before going back to playing with my fingers in my lap. Blake lets out a small chuckle before getting thrown off to the feel of my phone vibrating. Looking, I see it read 'Adriano' on the phone. Figuring he probably finally got his phone back, I just roll my eyes before closing the phone. He's probably just going to apologize through the phone or some crap like that. And I could tell you how much I really do not need to hear that crap right now.  I guess that's what I got for thinking he really had changed... "Speak of the devil and he shall appear," Blake says with humor after glancing at my phone, making us both c***k up at the small awkward silence from the caller on the other side.  For the rest of the ride every time we started to talk, the phone would go off with Adriano ringing me once again. Finally, after the 6th time, I decide to turn my phone off. "You know, you should probably speak to him. As much as it aches me to go on my bitter bosses side, I think you should give him a chance to explain." The seriousness in his tone making me raise my brow in question. "Why is it you care about whether I talk to Adriano all of a sudden? Don't you guys have bad rep with each other or something," I ask, genuinely curious on what his answer would be. He lets out a sigh in defeat before closing his eyes briefly. "That's another story for another time, but I just... I see how he acts towards you, and how he's so protective of you. His character has totally changed since you've been around. And I haven't seen him this normal sin-" he stops, not wanting to go any further with expelling his bosses personal past I'm guessing.  "Just call him when we get to the club, okay? For me," he says, making me gape at how much he cares about Adriano. I get Adriano had a rough past, but why do I feel like there's something else he's not telling me?  "Okay, fine," I say as I see the club in my peripheral vision.  "Thank you. Now, who's ready to drink all their problems away?! Just for tonight though, remember, drink responsibly," he says the last part like a parent, making me chuckle at his terrible humor. "Okay, now you're starting to sound more like a dad," I say as we pull into a parking spot, making him let out a snort. "Please, this player is having no snot nosed children around his bachelor pad. I'll just stick to my one night stands of you don't mind," he says before hopping out of the car and running to open mine as well, rolling my eyes at his comment, along with his weird gentleman act. "Thanks, but watch. In the next three years, you'll have at least one kid that you'll love and cherish the day it took its first breath," I say before starting to walk to the entrance, making him follow in my steps as I make my way up. "Woah, pretty deep, Petrov," he says as we finally get to the guard. Ignoring the conversation, I get stumped by the 6'5  buff man guarding the doors.  "Blake Walts and Luna Petrov," is all he says and the guy almost trips to open the rope to let us in. Blake then wraps his arm around my waist as we make our way into the club, making me jolt up to glare at him. Only to have his mouth by my ear and already yelling through the music to speak to me. "I can't lose you in the crowd! I'm just gonna lead you to a quieter area where we can talk!" He says pulling back, making me nod my head in reply. As he begins to pull me towards the open bar, I start to scavenge around to look for Adriano in the crowd of people, but no luck, even after I finally make it to said bar. Blake then let's go of my waist before sitting down on a stool. Following his lead, I sit on the stool next to him before ordering a bottle of water.  As soon as the bottle of water is in my hands, it's quickly gone and away from my parched lips. Seeing that it was Blake, I glare at him before trying to snatch it back, and failing once again. "No, you're here to let loose and be free. And that my friend, is exactly what you're gonna do," he says before setting the water bottle down. "A shot for the pretty lady please!" He yells at the bar tender before looking at me and giving me a knowing smirk. His brown eyes glowing with mischief, but soon turning serious when an obvious thought hits him. "Oh wait, call Adriano first. He needs to converse with a sober Luna, because I'm damn well not gonna get my ass handed to for that." With every inch of power it took not to slap Blake, I glare at him and shake my head before reaching my hand out. "Give me my freaking water, Walts, and then we'll talk," I say with hooded eyes, making a grin grow on his face before he pushes my water towards me. Same timing as the shot was poured. Opening the cap, I guzzle the water past my dry throat and sighing in relief when I was done. "Now, time to call boss," he says with an arched eyebrow, while waving my phone in my face. My face twist in confusion at the sight of my phone in his hand. "You left it in the car," he says with a shrug before pushing it at me. Rolling my eyes, I take the phone before finally dialing the man. One rings, two rings. My heart stops. Every noise fades out when I see Adriano talking and laughing with some beautiful woman that looked a lot older and more well put together than me. As the sound fades, I drop my hand with the phone in it, my mouth a gape and quickly hang up. Slamming my phone down, I turn my stool forward before downing the alcohol like it's the water I just drank. "Keep em' coming!" I yell to the bartender, making him follow my order as he fills another shot and I repeat the move. Never have I ever drank alcohol like this, but at this point, I couldn't care less. Feeling a hand in my shoulder, I turn to Blake and see the worry some expression on his face. "Hey, what's wrong?" He ask in a genuine concerned tone, making me nod my head to the giggling duos direction before turning back to the bar. "Why don't you ask, Mr early assignment guy," I say before taking another shot. Within the next two minutes, I had no clue what I was doing anymore. Trying to down the next shot, I'm stopped when I feel Blake's hand on my wrist. "Lune, maybe this is where you should cut it," he says while giving me a sympathetic look. Sighing, I follow his command and sloppily set the drink down. "I'm sorry, I really am not a drinker. It's just... I really hate that guy! All he does is say 'I'm sorry' 'I'm sorry'. But it's all bullshit in the end because he ends up doing it again! And I'm f*****g sick of it!" I slur out while glaring at the laughing couple. Quickly standing up, I stumble in my flats while still glaring at the couple. Supported by Blake from the stumble, I pat his hand in assurance before trudging towards the two people in a stumbling haste. As soon as I get up to them, I see Adriano's grin turn from humor to confusion when I get up on him, the ladies resembling his expression. Feeling Blake's present behind me, I ignore all sane thoughts in my head, all the innocence in my body, and say for once, say whatever the f**k I want. "You are a total f*****g coward, you know that?! You treat me like s**t this whole time I know you, and in the end of it all, I forgive you! But this?! This is low even for you!" I feel Blake's hand grab my arm, but I still continue to yell and say my thoughts while staying put. I could feel the fear of the people around me, the whispering saying how stupid I was for standing up to the scariest man in the world. But some comments saying I actually had balls. "You think you're all high and the mighty because of your rep around town, but really, I know you are a human. You crap and piss just like everyone else does, so why do you have to be so goddamn special!" The look of shock on Adriano's face turns to one of anger when come to contact with Blake, making Blake stiffen in fear told by the grip on my wrist. "You let her get hammered?!" Adriano yells at Blake as he starts to walk up to him, but stop when I block him from his path and look him in his eye with no fear. Snatching my grip from Blake's in the process. "Luna, move out of my way," he says in such a serious and emotionless tone, that it would leave most people running for the hills. At this point, the woman that was talking had already left from the fear of what might happen next. "Why did you lie... again?" I say with tears of frustration starting to pull in my eyes. I couldn't believe what I saw next, the scary look that everyone feared was plastered in stone on Adriano's face, but one look at my emotional wrecked face, and it softened to something of confusion and guilt. "What lie, fiore? I didn't lie to y-" he says while what seemed like almost reaching up to touch my face, but I stop him when I lightly shove him away. "You said you would drive me, that you would be there since I would probably need you. And what did you do?! You left! Just like everyone else, except you're worse. I thought you changed, but f**k if I was wro-" My words are cut off when I feel Adriano's arms around my waist, and before I knew it, I was hoisted up over his shoulder with no effort whatsoever. I was starting to sink deeper and deeper into a darker emotional state. Like the alcohol had just set off a truth bomb down my stomach and was exploding through my mouth in seams of words. Hearing the gasp and yelps from people that were watching the scene unfold before them. I ignore it all, because maybe this would've been a death sentence for anyone else, but I knew Adriano couldn't do anything bad to be. Who could kill their dead best friends daughter? And as if I would care in my drunken stupor now anyways. "Get your f*****g hands off me, you probably lied about not being with other women! And I probably just got herpes off of that woman you were fondling back there!" I yell to him once we're outside, told by the cool breeze I felt. Hearing the car door open, I feel my butt hit the seat. Before I knew it we were on the road. About another six minutes of talking nothing but sober thoughts to Adriano, I realize we're home. Feeling a tug, I realize I'm being pulled in the house. "You're completely f*****g insane, you know that?!" He yells once he slams the front door, now starting to pace back and forth all while running his fingers through his long dark brown hair in frustration. "And you're f*****g annoying, so we're even!" I yell in a slur before smiling at Adriano's glaring face. "Lune, I was searching for you everywhere tonight! Where in the hell were you?" He ask while running up to me and gripping my shoulders in a stern way. "How do you not remember? You texted me saying you couldn't give me a ride and had to take care of some stupid assignment at the bar," I finish, the alcohol starting to wear off and turn into drowsiness. "Text? I didn't text you that. In fact, I texted you saying I went out to get some gas and would be back in fifteen minutes," he says as he scrunches his beautiful face up in anger and confusion. Not even caring what I do anymore, with no hesitation, I run my hands through his hair before tugging on it lightly. "For someone with a evil personality, you have really amazing hair. I mean, it's softer than mine, and I'm a girl for goodness sake," I say smiling and laughing, making his hard expression turn to one of slight humor. I then place my hands on his cheeks before lightly rubbing my thumb over his lips. "Your lips, the way they pout out when your angry or focusing hard on something. Just like how your eyebrows furrow when you're feeling those same emotions all at once." I'm whispering at this point. No longer slurring and no longer stumbling. My mouth is saying what it's been wanting to say for the past months, my body doing what it's been craving in said time. "Lune, please don't. I can't- we can't do this, ever. It just can't happen." He says making a pang hit my chest at his harsh words. "Please don't do what? Kiss you? Why? Oh wait, let me guess! Three try's, okay?! One, It's because of my father being your ex best friend/ex partner. In which 'I'm just too young'. No wait! Two, your wife that–God help her soul, has to watch as her husband let himself fall deeper and deeper into a dark abyss of sadness. Or three-" "Oh for f**k sake!" I hear him yell before feeling his harsh lips slam against mine in a demanding and controlling way. Not knowing whether I should kiss back or not, I start to slowly move my lips in sync with his. Fighting for dominance, I start to kiss back with as much passion as he does. But as soon as it was happening, it was in the past already. Feeling him pull back before the kiss went too far. He then lays me down gently on the couch before covering me over with a blanket. "Try three, I'm not a piece of scum who sleeps with un-consenting drunk girls. You don't mean any of this anyway, Lune. You're gonna forget all this happened tomorrow morning while I'm holding your hair back as you puke in a porcelain pot." He says the last part with a chuckle, but he didn't know the truth behind every ounce of crap I spouted tonight.  Does he not remember? Drunk words are sober thoughts unsaid...
