We got out the car and walked in, some of my co workers I normally work with are here. Normally I would be very insecure walking into a place like this but, I have worked here for a year and I have gotten very comfortable. Everybody treats you like family and it's just a great environment to be in. We walked up to the rental shoes and I see Devin, tall, dark skin man, he was probably in his 50's, bald, wearing our normal bowling alley T shirt, khakis and sensible shoes. Wasn't very talkative but he was an easy person to talk to, when he saw us he put his attention to us.
"what size?" he asked
"Size 12 for me and?" he said as he looked at me and questioned
"size 8" I replied
"coming up" Devin said as he left to get us our shoes.
Josh turned to me and smiled, I looked back at him with a questionable look on my face.
"your doing it again, what are you thinking?" I asked him
His grin grew, "I'm thinking about how I'm going to kick your ass at this" He laughed
"Oh whatever, need I remind you I work here so I get practice in" I joked
"And need I remind you I'm here all the time, so same here" He said with a competitive look in his eye.
"Well we will just see about that, may the best person win" I said as I could feel my competitive spirit rising.
We got our shoes and Devin asked what lane we would prefer, I told him the one in the corner ; because it's normally quiet and no one really comes down that way they like to stay towards the front. He put us on lane 10 and we headed down to the isle. We set everything down and began to put our shoes on, then we went and Picked the ball we wanted. Of course Josh wanted to show off so he grabbed a ball a a little more than what he could handle. I grabbed my normal 8 lb ball and we went back to our lane, he asked me did I want to go first and I got up, grabbed my ball, line it up where I wanted it and threw it down the lane. Granted I'm not great but for what it's worth I'm not bad either. The ball finally hit the pins and I had one standing, my ball came back up and I aimed it just right again and it knocked the pin down. I turned back to go to my seat and looked at Josh, he gave me the look of "Okay you want to play, bring it on" and I just chuckled. He got up grabbed his ball and walked up to the lane, lined up the shot where he wanted it and threw it down the lane. On his turn I just looked and observed everything around me. You could say our alley hasn't been updated since the late 80's early 90's which it doesn't bother me but I feel like we would draw in more people if it were updated. At the far end it had a red carpet wall, one section had a hockey table that barely worked half the time, pool tables which was everyone's favorite, claw machines that were rigged and in a small corner the bathrooms. Beside the game area was the rental shoes, then on the other side was the snack bar with overly priced food but it's a bowling alley got to make the money some how.
I looked back to him and smiled, he was standing there with his arms wide and gave me a look. I looked at the pins and he got beginners luck with a strike. He walked back to me and I got up, grabbed my ball and lined up my shot and threw it down the lane. Thankfully I had a few pointers from one of my co workers who bowls more than me. My ball made a strike against the pins, he looked at me in amazement.
"I'm not going easy on you big boy" I told him as I slapped him against the chest.
He chuckled and got close to me "Bring it on short stack" he smiled
I got as close as I could get " oh i'm going to bring it and there is nothing you can do about it" I went into a whisper on the last part and walked away to my seat. He stood there for a second and just stared.
"You going to bowl or you just going to stand there like a deer in headlights?" I chuckled.
He snapped out of it and grabbed his ball, the more the game went on the more competitive we got. We bowled till about 6 o'clock and by the last game I was exhausted. As we finished the game we got our scores and handed our shoes in. We compared scores it was neck and neck but safe to say I won that round of everything.
"What can I say you know your way around a lane Ms. Jones" He said
"Like I said I have dabbled in bowling for awhile and I may have gotten some tips from an old pro" I confessed
"Hey that's not fair" he exclaimed
"I got them before we started talking so..." I trailed off
Josh just chuckled, we got our shoes back and headed out the door. As we were walking to the car we were deciding where to eat. Well, at least I was but I think he had a place already in mind. To be honest I was thirsty than I was hungry. We got into the car and he just started driving I asked him where we were going and he said to a Japanese place Which, by that time I new it was my favorite the one and only itchibar. Five minutes later we pulled into the parking lot and we found a place. We got out the car, walked in and the host lead us to a table. We told the lady our drink order I got water and he got Pepsi. A few minutes later the lady came back over and took our order he got the steak hibachi and I got an order of sushi. Which I should have read it cause it was one piece I was thinking it was going to be a roll. She did make sure that was all I wanted and I reassured her. We continued to talk about our likes, Dislikes, goals, and what we wanted to do with our lives. Honestly I feel like I could talk to him all day, we were about to change the subject when our food arrived. The waitress put the food in front of us, she looked at me and asked was I sure thats all I wanted it was a single piece of sushi and I reassured her with a smile "yes ma'am thank you".
Part of me was happy it was one piece, because i have always been afraid to eat in front of guys. Mainly because of the size I am, I mean if you really look at my eating habits I don't really eat that much. I ate my piece of sushi and mainly devoured my drink more than anything. As Josh was eating he looked up at me, finished chewing and then spoke.
"Are you sure that's all you want? I can get you something else if you want" He asked
"Yeah I'm sure I'm actually full" he looked at me funny, granted I feel like he could put food away like its nothing.
"Really?" He said and then he realized what she said
"that's not what I meant" he tried to clear up
"No its fine I understand what you meant" I chuckled seeing the embarrassment on his face.
We finished our meal, paid for it and left. We walked to the car and he turned to me and asked me what did I want to do next, I looked at the time on my phone and saw it was 8:30 pm.
"Its 8:30 and I know everything is about to close around here" I told him
" Is it really 8:30? Time flies when you're having fun I guess" he nervous chuckled. I could tell he didn't want to take me home and I didn't want to go home either but it was time for this night to end. The thought of it ending made me nervous and sad because I didn't know if he would speak to me after tonight. We both agreed he would take me home, the ride was in a comfortable silence for a little bit until he turned the radio. As we listened to the radio any song he knew that came on he would sing and I would laugh he knew he was terrible at it but he didn't care, it made me laugh and lightened the mood. The closer we got home the closer my heart sank and felt like it was going to fall out my ass. Twenty minutes later we returned home and he walked me to the door.
"you can come in if you want to" I told him
"sure" he responded.
I smiled and we walked into the house, my dad had already went to bed for work in the morning. We went back to my room and I turned on my TV that was mounted on the wall. My room was a normal teenage room blue walls, Miley Cyrus and Jonas brothers posters on one wall, my art on another I had done in high school, family and friends pictures on another wall, my full sized bed in the middle of my room. We chose to watch zombieland I do say is one of my favorite movies ever. I offered Josh something to eat and drink but he respectfully declined. We laid down in my bed and watched the movie by the time the movie was over I was about to fall asleep. I think he noticed cause he told me he was going to start heading out, I felt him get up and put on his shoes and I rolled off my bed and walked him to the back door. Once we got to the door he stopped and turned to me.
"I had a great time with you tonight" he told me and smiled
"me too" I smiled
"maybe we can do it again, I'll text you when I get home" he told me
" you better, and I would like that" I smiled bit my lip a little bit. Next thing I know he was leaning in, and I slowly leaned in and our lips met. I could feel the passion and the sparks and maybe it was just me I don't know we will find out tomorrow. We pulled apart and we both breathed out real hard. He smiled at me walked out the door and too his car. I closed the door locked it and made sure he was gone before I made a b-line for the fridge granted that one piece of sushi is all I ate today so I was starving. I rummaged through the fridge and cabinets and I ended up settling for a can of spaghetti and meatballs by Chef Boyardee. If we are being honest I opened the can and just ate it from the can I didn't care at this point, I walked back to my room changed and put another movie in. Once I finished my spaghetti I put everything in the kitchen, laid back down, and watched TV, twenty five minutes after laying down my phone dings and it was Josh telling me he made it home safe. I told him I was glad and thank you for everything. After I sent that message I fell asleep hoping he would continue to talk to me.
