Chapter 6

1232 Words
I walked into the main cabin around nine am. I woke up pretty early for actually having some time to sleep in and had been ready by eight am but I didn’t want to seem to anxious or pushy. I know that sounds silly, but I was worried and excited at the same time. Sophia looked up at me from the computer and smiled big.                 “Good morning Heather. I hope you slept well.”                 “Good Morning Sophia. I did sleep well. That bed is so comfortable and its crazy that I am able to sleep on a big bed alone. I still ended up on the edge of the bed even without my kiddos hogging it.” I laughed thinking of all the times I have woken up about to fall off the bed only to see my two kids taking up the whole king size bed.                 “Oh I definitely understand that. It comes easier with practice believe me. So tonight youll be closer to the middle then the edge.” Sophia laughed as that and then showed me where the breakfast was. “We have biscuits, gravy, eggs, toast, bacon, sausage, and cereal. There are a few different fruit drinks and milk on the other counter. Dig in. I have a few more things to get done before we head out.”                 “Thank you. This looks amazing. Did all the other people eat already?”                 “We only have about 5 of the cabins rented out currently. Three of them are out on hikes with my oldest son and another family is out with A.J learning to use a bow. The last cabin I haven’t seen but it is a newly married couple so I don’t expect to see much of them.” Sophia had winked when she said this and went back to her work.                 I filled up a plate and sat down. I got my book out and started to read when the front door opened. I looked up hoping to see another cabin renter and saw breath taking man walk in. He looked to be over six foot with caramel brown hair, broad shoulders, and very nice butt. He never looked my way so no idea on what his face or eyes look like. His cologne wafted toward me and I made a soft noise as if I was eating the yummiest food ever. I guess he had heard me so he looked over and me with his grey eyes. He whispered something under his breath and Sophia lifted her head to look over at me. Since both seemed to be staring, I just waved and went back to reading my book. Really, I was pretending to read my book since I could feel their stares on me.                 I finally heard Sophia tell her son to come talk to her and it was a big relief. I hate it when people just stare at me when all I want to do is ask if something is on my face. This time I kept wiping my face after every bite, so I hoped that wasn’t the case. I kept trying to hear their conversation but it was no use. Too bad I didn’t have super sonic hearing because right now that would be amazing. So instead I finished my plate and cleaned up until I saw they had stopped talking.                 “Hey Sophia. Sorry if I am interrupting, I just wanted to let you know that I was done eating and am ready when you are,” I said as I walked up to the counter.                 “Oh no you are not interrupting. We were just discussing the rest plans for the day for the other renters. Let me grab my purse and I will be ready.” Sophia turned to her son and gave him a glare. I wondered what happened that made her so upset with her son. He looked over at me and just gave me a smile so I guess his mom wasn’t that mad at him.                 “Hello, Heather. I am Sebastian and Sophia is my mother. She mentioned you were going on a girls day out. That sounds like fun,” he said as he walked over to lean on the counter. He was smiling the whole time and kept staring straight into my eyes. It definitely made me even more nervous and I began to blush.                 “Nice to meet you Sebastian. Yea we are although she hasn’t mentioned what we will be doing other than some shopping and getting groceries before heading back. I forgot to go get some last night and it got super late. Thank goodness your mom showed up with some awesome lasagna. I need to make sure to get her recipe.” I said doing my best not to stutter or fidget with my hair. Sometimes when I get anxious or stressed I start to play with my hair or bite my lip.                 “Yea she is a great cook and she gives her recipes out willingly so she will definitely give it to you. I bet your kids love your cooking.”                 “Oh thanks. They do as long as doesn’t involve peas or Brussel sprouts which I can totally relate to. What is on the agenda for the day for you?”                 “Actually nothing. I already finished the morning hike with the other customers, and no one has asked about doing one this afternoon, so I have nothing to do. I should probably go grocery shopping today as well since only you two got the lasagna last night.” He teased as his mother walked over to the counter.                 “Oh, hush it. You have had my lasagna numerous times and there is more in the fridge at my cabin if you are wanting it that bad. Heather and I will be eating out for lunch. “Sophia had her hand on her hip as she spoke to her son and then looked at me. “I am ready. Let’s head out. I made us a nail appointment and a lunch reservation. Anywhere else you want to go just let me know.”                 “It was nice meeting you Sebastian. Depending how the day goes today I may see about setting up a hike with you for tomorrow. Its nice to be able to get back into nature without having the weight of the world on my shoulders.” I started to follow Sophia out the door when I felt a hand on my wrist. I looked up into Sebastian’s eyes and didn’t even realize he was talking. “Huh?”                 “I said that I would love to take you out on some trails and tomorrow I am free anytime. Have a great time with my mom and be careful.” Sebastian let go of my wrist and turned back to the computer. I realized that Sophia was holding the door for me, so I rushed out the door and into the passenger side of her car. I sat there confused with my feelings and with how he looked at me. He looked at me like I was the meat on the all you can eat buffet.
