Chapter 1

“Thanks again mom. I really need this vacation after the stress from finals and my narcissistic ex-husband. I made sure to pack Benjamin’s dragon he sleeps with and Gabrielle’s blanket she loves so much, “ I said as I walked the kids suitcases inside my mothers house. I am going to miss them so much but after dealing with my first semester of nursing classes and all the rings I had to jump through just to get my divorce finalized. “Anytime. We are excited to have them for the week and we have a lot planned. Did you text me the address and phone number of the place you will be staying so we can check up on you?” My mother asked as she shut the trunk of my car and walked inside with me. She has always been a worry wart but a lot of the time I am thankful for this. “I did and I wrote it in the notebook I have in Ben’s suitcase that also lists what dosages the kids can have of any medication they may need. Also, their doctor’s information and insurance. I am going to kiss the kids goodbye and head out. I don’t want to be late to the airport.” I hugged my mother and kissed my baby girl on the cheek. This week is going to be hard without my babies, but I need to focus on me. I found my son outside playing soccer with his Papa and gave him a big hug while kissing all over his face. I waved one last goodbye as I backed the car out of the driveway and headed to the airport. I was going to be there early, but you never know what traffic you may hit or how long the lines will be to turn in your luggage. I am going to stay in a Cabin in Evergreen, Colorado for the week. It will be great to breathe some fresh air with only the sounds of the wildlife in the background as I refocus on my schooling, career, and children. I turned on the radio and started rocking out to some music from the 90’s and made sure I had the correct address in my GPS. I got to listen to my own music instead of childrens rhymes and cartoon soundtracks. A mom can only do the Frozen soundtrack so many times before she wants to break the dang cd in half. “And how many bags will you be checking in today, Heather?” Asked the airport worker as she was printing my ticket and checking my Id. I was embarrassed to even answer her knowing she saw I was only going to be gone ONE week. “I have two bags to check in. I have my fingers crossed neither is over the weight limit, “I answered with a nervous laugh. Last time I flew one bag was over the limit and I had to stuff several things in my carry on and my purse while other customers had to wait on me. I was bright red and stressed to the max when it was all done. I think I was even sweating in places that shouldn;t be sweating. I got my bags checked in, went through security, and had found where my plane was leaving from. I still had 2 hours before takeoff, so I decided to get some food and watch a show on my phone.really I was probably going to people watch like msot people at the airport. I try to guess where people are from and where they are traveling. I am glad I packed my headphones as I searched for them in my purse while still walking to head to a restaurant to sit down and eat. It's been forever since I have gotten to order what I wanted and eat at my pace without making sure my toddler can't make a run for it. I was having a hard time pulling them from my purse when I ran into something hard. I bounced back and caught myself before falling on my ass. I looked up and realized it wasn't a brick wall it was a huge ass guy who looked like he at nails for dinner and he looked very angry when I looked up at him. “I am so sorry. I couldn’t get these gosh darn headphones out of my purse,” I explained as he stared me down with a hard stare. I was waiting for him to explode and start yelling with the way his body language read. I took a small step back in case I needed to run from this overgrown meat head. “Your fine… This time. Next time maybe you should stop walking while trying to dig something out of your purse. Doing two things at once may not be something your good at,” he huffed as he picked up his suitcase he had dropped and walked off. All I could do was roll my eyes and keep on walking. Maybe he should pull that stick out of his butt someday. Geez Louise! Its not like I meant to walk into him and make him drop anything.
