POV: Malia Moon Reid left me in the principal's outer office when the summons came, a narrow waiting room with a single closed door leading through to where the principal actually works. I sit with my hands folded in my lap, doing my best impression of a girl with no reason to be nervous, though the voices bleeding faintly through the wood make that increasingly difficult to maintain. The waiting room is sparse, a single hard bench, a shelf of ledgers I don't dare touch, nothing to occupy my hands or my attention except the muffled conversation I can't quite make out.
