The walk feels endless and I can't decide if I am too close or not close enough to Jax as he helps me along. Every corridor is longer than the last, every staircase is a mountain. By the time we reach the administrative wing, black spots flicker at the edges of my vision. I won’t let myself sag against the wall, even as the urge drags at my spine. Jax gives me one more look before disappearing into the hallway. “Wait here,” Archer tells us, like a judgment. “I’ll see you one at a time.” He disappears into his office. The door closes with a hollow, echoing thunk. I drop onto the nearest bench, feeling it rattle up through my bruises, grateful for the stop. Ulric stays standing, rubbing his forearm where I must have landed a hit. He watches me instead of the door, calm now, curious. Wolve
