Celine's pov I was able to get some food, take a warm bath, and then have a long night of sleep. However, this moment of peace didn't last, as I was woken by a knock at the door. I glance at the wall clock in my room, my heart skipped a beat, wondering who could be at the door this early. “Who is there?” “Open up! It's me, Damien!” My heart ran cold, replaced with an intense fear. The images of my previous life came flooding back and all that I could think about was to strangle this man right here and take revenge for all he did to me. But a quick death was a mercy that Damien and Jessica didn't deserve. “Hold on!” I got up from my tiny bed where I have always slept ever since I was adopted into this family as a child and grabbed my jacket, tugging it around my fragile body before heading to the door. “Damien! It's past five in the morning, what the hell are you doing here?” “I came to see you” A tender smile spread through his face as heade an effort to embrace me but I quickly pulled away from his side, disgusted at this man standing in front of me. “What is wrong with you, Celine? It's me” “I know…. I am sorry. It's just that I had a rough birthday yesterday, come inside” I ushered him and slowly returned to my bed But my room was the one place he hated to be in, he was the Alpha son and couldn't stand a small and shabby room with not even a single chair to sit on. “I heard the Alpha King was here yesterday and you agreed to marry him. Celine is that supposed to be some sort of a joke?” “I was locked up in the dungeon for two days……” “That is not what I am asking Celine” “So you are saying that you are not shocked or angry at the fact that your fiancée spent her night in the cold and dark dungeon?” My gaze was pinned on him, as if he had just made a terrible mistake. He lowered his head. “I am sorry Celine. I don't like to interfere with family matters but I know that if your father asked you to be at the dungeon, then you must have done something wrong” I scoffed, his words didn't hurt me. Instead, I was surprised how I had managed to love this man all this time. In my previous life. I had adored him, ready to give my entire inheritance to him but here he was, looking me in the eyes and telling me I deserved to be there. “Let me ask you, Damien. Have you ever once questioned my father why I sleep in a storage room like this when there are many big and beautiful rooms in this pack house?” “This place is okay, you have always loved it here, why are you suddenly complaining. Did the Alpha King say something to you?” A bitter laugh had escaped my lips and now I was genuinely curious. “Let me ask you Damien, why do you want to get married to me?” That was a question I had always failed to ask, he has been in love with Jessica. Somehow I was starting to put the prices together but what I was yet to comprehend was why he was going to push through with the marriage. Although at the surface it seemed like it was because of the inheritance, when I think deeper about it, I feel there are more reasons attached to this. But I never thought about it in my previous life as a result of the trust I had in them. “Celine. Why would you even ask me such a question, you know how much I love you” “And yet you are okay with me staying in this room and being locked up in a dungeon without food for days?” I asked and his expression suddenly became tender. He moved close to me, finally sat on my bed, and he caressed my cheek. “I know it might not be easy, your father has been trying to raise you the way he thinks is best. But don't you worry because soon, you will come over and be with me forever and you wouldn't have to go through all that pain, ever again” “No! I am sorry. But I can't!” I spoke with finality in my tone but his eyes suddenly turned furious. “How could you say such a thing to me? Don't you know how much I love, please Celine. I can't live my life without you” He pleaded, there was desperation in his eyes. He looked so sincere that I almost fell for it. “So you are saying that if I refuse Alpha Kade. You will make him not force me into the marriage?” “Of course! I will do anything to protect you, and I have spoken with your father, I think that we should shift the wedding to next week” “Next week? You think he would agree?” “He already did, it's just left for your consent and I can start making preparations” His gaze was fixed on me, and I lowered my head for a long time. Like I was thinking about it and when I finally lifted my head to meet his gaze, my face was etched with a soft smile. “Yes. I will tell him that I will reject the offer and marry you!” I assured him as he wrapped his arms around me. Kissing every trace of my body with warmth and long ing. If only he knew what was coming, then he would understand that I was no longer the girl that I used to be!
