Her breath caught audibly, and for a moment I thought the information might break through whatever wall had gone up behind her eyes since she'd first seen me standing over that last body.
Instead she took another step back, putting more distance between us, her gaze moving from my blood-streaked hands to my face and back again like she was trying to reconcile two versions of me that refused to line up.
"You let everyone think you're a joke." Her voice had dropped, quieter now, but no less unsteady. "You let Roman think you're reckless. You let Kade think you don't care about anything except your next distraction. And this whole time you've been out here, alone, hunting rogues, killing them without a second thought."
