Most people misunderstood Roman.
They assumed silence meant calm. It didn't.
Silence meant he was thinking too hard about something he wanted to forget.
For the last two days, he'd trained until sunrise, answered every question with one-word replies, and glared at anyone unfortunate enough to wander into his path.
Naturally, I found it fascinating.
"You've been unbearable," I said, dropping into the chair opposite him.
Roman didn't bother looking up from the report spread across his desk.
"I wasn't aware your opinion mattered."
"It doesn't."
I smiled.
"But it does explain why Kade suddenly enjoys patrol duty."
