Chapter 4: First Quest

I woke up from the sound of the bell dangling and making noise from the church situated in this town, I then took my bag and went down to eat something from the inn.

 After eating I proceeded to go to the public bathhouse and immediately went in when I paid them Fifty copper coins.

“It’s really nice to bathe in warm water in the morning” I said without hesitation because it didn’t seem like anyone was there.

“So you like warm baths, huh? If you really want to enjoy the best bath you’ll ever experience in your life then go visit the south dungeon. Although, you look like a weak person so I doubt you’ll be able to survive and get to the hot spring there” a man who just entered said, his voice startled me for it was a bit loud and quite big.

“Well, I’m not really interested but that sounds nice, by the way I’m Magus” I said, I’m not particularly interested but he makes it sound like monsters there are strong. I might be able to become stronger if I go to the south dungeon.

“I’m Donovan, an A-ranked adventurer. You’re also an adventurer, aren’t you, young lad? I saw you register just yesterday” Donovan said with a wide smile on his face, I know Donovan, he was quite famous even in the army.

He was almost as strong as General Kalovski.

“Yeah, I became an adventurer only to become strong” I replied to him solemnly while looking at the ceiling of the bathhouse.

“That’s a very nice goal, young ‘un. Well, if you need any kind of assistance just hit me up” he said with much sincerity with a wide smile.

“Thank you, I’ll do just that” after that conversation we talked a lot more and after much time we eventually headed out. I immediately went to the guild hall to accept a quest, after a while I picked a quest that was suitable for a beginner like me. I then went to the receptionist to confirm my accepting the quest.

“I want to accept this quest” I said to the receptionist who quickly finished what I needed to get going and do the quest that I picked.

 I went to an armor shop first and bought leather arm guards and gloves, after that I went to a weapon shop to sell my sword because I only had one silver left of my earnings from the slimes.

I sold the sword for six silver coins because it was still in good condition and had only been used once. The quest was from a village nearby that is getting attacked by goblins because their harvest season was coming up, by the way the quest that I picked was Goblin Extermination, goblins are also called little mischiefs since they are only an annoyance to some.

Goblins are mostly found in caves but some of them leave their caves in this time of the year to get food and since harvest season is coming up for this village they got attacked by goblins.

I traveled towards this village and when I arrived I immediately talked to the village chief who pointed their fields, after talking I went to the fields to guard it. It was quite the wait actually, the goblins only appeared after an hour, or so, and there were only seven of them.

The goblins came at me as a group, they were quite different to slimes who came at me one by one but even still they were weak monsters.

I hit each of the goblins fiercely on the face, I exerted strength from the center of my body and redirected it to my arm, I twisted my body with might and landed solid hits on the monsters faces.

The goblins flew away but not far, fighting them using my hands was easier than I thought, it surely shows that using my hands were much more convenient rather than me using a sword.

I suddenly remembered the demon that killed me and how it killed me, the demon’s hand was protruding from my chest back then. I wonder if I tried that on these goblins maybe getting the cores would be easier. I tried doing so and, surprisingly, I was right, I got the core much easier than before.

When a quest involves a monster you must take one of its body part to prove that you have completed the quest, in a goblin’s case you must take its ear.

 After that I went back to the guild hall and received ten silver as a reward for completing the quest and the three silver and fifty copper coins, after that I did 2 more quests and earned twenty silver coins. Since it was quite a hectic day I decided to sleep for the day.

I slept like a baby last night, as usual I went to the bathhouse but before that I ate in the inn. When I got to the bathhouse Donovan wasn’t there, I wasn’t really expecting but okay.

When I got out of the bathhouse I immediately went to the guild, although I was not there to accept a quest, I was there to gather some information. Maybe some information on how I can become stronger, while I sat there drinking some mead I heard some folks talking about a dungeon.

My plan was set in stone and I decided to go to a dungeon, maybe I can even find some items that’ll help me there. A dungeon is somewhat of a labyrinth going down, it has monsters and items that are unique to the ones in the surface.

“Go immediately, i***t” a voice in my head said, I looked for the one who said it I noticed that most of the adventurers here are in the bulletin board or in the other side of the hall and they don’t even hear me because I didn’t say that out loud.

Another mystery had added itself to the piled up mysteries I have in my head, first the method of fighting using my hands, the voice when I died, the ‘martial arts’ thingy, and now another voice. And why is it always insulting me? Calling me an i***t and all.

That guy’s rude. Anyway, my plan of getting stronger is decided and that is to go to the dungeon.
