Broken Silence

1030 Words

"Mr. Leo Van Driscoll?" The meeting facilitator's voice echoed again, sharper this time. Leo flinched. For the first time since Diane had walked through that door, he looked away. His gaze peeled from her face and turned back to the man at the front of the room. The facilitator gave a polite nod, waiting. But Leo... he couldn’t speak. He blinked at him, clearly disoriented. "Well, if there's nothing to say on this, we should continue," the facilitator said, flipping the brochure over to the next page. The meeting continued but Leo remained silent. He wasn’t even sure what had been discussed. His eyes occasionally met Diane's, but she kept her face expressionless, like she hadn't known him a day in her life. She spoke once—confident, crisp, sharp—and Leo could barely hear the words.
