After brushing my teeth and washing my face, I went downstairs to the kitchen in search of a vase. The chef was already there, humming while preparing something that smelled like fresh bread. He smiled warmly when he saw me. “Good morning, Miss Inka. Beautiful flowers. Would you like a vase for them?” “Yes, please,” I said, still smiling. “Thank you.” He found a lovely glass vase and helped me arrange the roses with a bit of water. I set them on the kitchen island where I could see them from almost anywhere in the main living area, and they instantly brightened the whole space. It was an amazing morning, and the rest of the day promised the same with Riley coming over. I stood at the kitchen counter for a few minutes before gathering the little bits of leaves and thorns I’d cut off.
