The morning of the fifth day arrived too quickly, and sunlight filtered through the curtains as I stood in front of the mirror, applying makeup for what I hoped would be my last shift at So Heavenly.
My bag was already half-packed and hidden under the bed. Tonight, after my shift, I would leave this town for good.
A soft knock sounded on my bedroom door.
“Come in,” I called.
Riley stepped inside, still in her pajamas, looking like she hadn’t slept much. She had stayed over last night instead of going back to Kane’s, clearly worried about me.
“Good morning…” she started, closing the door behind her. Her voice was heavy with concern. “I’ve been thinking about everything you told me. About Shadow’s offer.”
