16 Meredith : 3rd Day Minutes later we’re zooming up the on-ramp and back onto the national route. The road drones on and on. We’re passing through built up areas now. Traffic lights. Roundabouts. Crossroads with four-way stops. Up onto a freeway. Down again. Residential areas and shopping malls whizz past in the dark. We’re moving up market. We turn down a street lined with mansions set back from the road. Many of the gardens are hidden behind tall walls and iron gates. A hundred yards along, Johnson slows and turns in.
