23 Meredith : 4th Day I must have fallen asleep for I wake up to find we're entering Upington. The sun is coming up behind us in the east. We drive alongside a wide river for a space and then bypass the center of the town, traveling through a residential area. Kempton stops to refuel. Sukey and I buy food and drink and back in the car again. We turn onto the N10, the signpost saying Nakop Border Post 145kms. About 90 miles. Only 90 miles and we'll be beyond the reach of the South African Police. That's if they're still looking for us. Even if they are, our fake passports mean they won't be alerted when we cross the border. As the daylight brightens up the sky, the scenery comes into relief. It's a strange alien landscape of red ochre and gray rocky soil. Vegetation is sparse and stunted
