I was having trouble breathing.
Like chains, the Eclipse King's might encircle me and tried to engulf me. The weight of it made my entire body tremble. Thick and oppressive, the darkness soaked into my veins.
Then—a spark.
Deep within me, there is a glimmer of golden light.
My strength. Alive. Still blazing.
I tightened my jaw. I'm not going to lose.
I opened my eyes. Caspian was still engaged in combat. The pack was still engaged in combat. For me.
I have to keep them alive.
My mind slithered with the voice of the Eclipse King. Adira, why not? I own you.
I looked him in the eye. "No," I said. "I am my property."
I let go after that.
The darkness was broken by a bright light that surged from within me. The Eclipse King stumbled back, losing his hold on me.
