Leslie caught an early morning bus and then accepted a lift from a friendly lorry driver for the final leg of his journey into the heart of London. Mrs. Crowe, Robert’s elderly housekeeper, met him at the rectory door and greeted him excitedly. She’d worked for Father Robert several years now and was considered part of their small, but close-knit family. As such, she’d dispensed with formalities long ago. She grabbed the small traveling valise from Leslie's hand and in motherly fashion pushed him toward the stairs and up to the guest room she kept ready for visitors. “Freshen up, Mr. Leslie. I’ll put the kettle on. Father should be back any minute.”
