Chapter 20: Coda During the week of August 9th through the 12th in the summer of 1941, the President of the United States, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, met with the British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, off the coast of Newfoundland. The meeting, known as the Atlantic Conference, resulted in the drafting of a document titled The Atlantic Charter. The charter delineated the goals and objectives of the two governments regarding the war, and ultimately stated that the countries were united against the Axis powers led by Nazi Germany. Given the high secrecy of the security arrangements, the Atlantic Conference went off without a hitch. The code name for this historical WWII event was Riviera. THE END
