The morning sun streamed in to bathe the room in its golden glow. Wilhelm stirred only slightly at first. He turned away from the window and snuggled into the mattress. It was only as the last of the night’s dreams dissolved into the new day that he remembered that there was a wolf downstairs. The recollection spurred him out of bed and to the door though his enthusiasm seemed to dissipate at the top of the stairs. A wolf, after all was said and done, was a wild animal. It would be foolish to go rushing down to be greeted by a flash of teeth and gums. Wilhelm descended the stairs not knowing what to expect once he arrived at the bottom. Would the wolf have recovered enough to attack? Or would it have died during the night? Even before he had finished his descent he could see that the wolf
