Nelly:I gave u a simple instruction and u failed to do it.what the hell did I hire u for if u don't knw how to do your job Maatla!Just moving all my meetings to tomorrow was it so hard.

Maatla:Um sorry boss I was busy with running other errands u gave me and it took longer than I thought but I am getting to it right now.

Nelly:Don't call Mr Kealeboga um on my way to him, as for the rest start making calls now Maatla! I can't be dealing with angry clients just cause u forgot to reschedule our meetings,I really don't have time for that.If I get another call from an angry client cause u still haven't made calls yet know that u are fired am I clear.

As maatla was about to reply her she hanged up the phone.Some people hv no respect for their employees they literally treat them like s**t but u know what they all say ," one day is one day".Maatla thought to himself so hurt from how Nelly always talks to him.Nelly is a millionaire and she lives at phakalane in one those dream houses that are to die for.She owns about five cars ,not married, no kids,owns a hotel,construction company and a waste picking company which she runs with her family. As for the other two they are all her own.

She has never known what suffering looks like.Her parents raised her and her adopted elder brother in wealth. They never complained about a thing, anything they needed was given to them in a blink of an eye.They grew up spending time on their gadgets in their rooms they never really saw their parents coz they were never home ,if they are not working till late they are on business trips.They never knew what is the meaning of love from a parent or even be disciplined for their bad behavior. One would have thoughtshe would learn about respect and discipline from school but NO that didn't happen, she went to a private school all her life.

Phetogo was better than his sister in terms of behavior because he learnt a few things about manners from the orphanage he lived in.He accepted people as they are and knew not to judge people because of their background. He grew up with a huge family even if they were not related by blood but he regarded all the people at the orphanage as family thus he knew what the meaning of love and family meant.He was taught by mma Kegaisamang from the orphanage to be happy for every small thing he gets never to take the people around him for granted,to live life to the fullest with no regrets ,to have self-respect as well as to treat other as he would like them to treat him. Despite the absence of his adoptive parents he was raised well and knew better.

It's 2 am in the morning when Nelly's phone rang but she decided her beauty sleep comes first other things can wait till morning. She suddenly jumped due to Phetogo busting her door open.

Nelly:What do you think you are doing breaking my door down like that,you have no right to come into my room like that .Have you never heard of knocking before?u should remember your place in this house......

Before she could finish Phetogo broke down in tears and said "our parents died in a car accident this morning Nelly ".

Nelly :What?Phetogo I have no time for pranks I have important meetings to attend tomorrow.

Phetogo:Nelly cut the crap and for once stop being a spoilt brat for a minute please! This is a serious matter here,why would I joke about something this serious? Check your phone the hospital called you first but u ignored their calls so they called me.

Nelly checks her phone and for the first time in forever she goes mute.Ten minutes pass then she asks ,"what happened exactly did they tell you?"

Phetogo:No not yet we hv to go to the hospital to see if really it is our parents now not forgetting an explanation on how all this transpired. Get ready we leave in 20 minutes okay.

They reach the hospital and they are guided to the mortuary where they are shown two bodies. Nelly couldn't hold her tears back.she prayed that all this be a mistake but her fear came true.Her parents were really dead.They were right before her eyes so quiet and so cold with name tags on their feet ,she was speechless. She fainted right on the spot.

The next morning she woke up she was on a hospital bed.she still had a blurred vision but could make out that the person sitting next to her is Phetogo. He quickly called for a nurse to check on Nelly just to make sure she is fine.

Nurse: Good morning Nelly I am nurse sibanda and I am here to do a quick check on you. Please open your eyes as wide as u can for me.

Nelly: what happened?

Nurse: you fainted yesterday at the mortuary.

Nelly:I need to go because I have to get the funeral preparations started and I can't do that from this bed.

Nurse: you are good to go,your brother is waiting for you outside.

Nelly immediately started with the arrangements she did not feel the need to rest even for a day.The burial took place then she became a workaholic. She tried to hide her pain by drowning herself in work.she did not want her brother to help her with anything she pushed him away , built a wall so high he could never climb to reach her.

Slowly but surely she got to a point of depression. She started making bad decisions for the companies and soon they were all bankrupt. They lost all their companies, so they had no source of income left.Nelly decided to sell all their cars just to have money to keep them stable at home which was a good decision because what is the their purpose if they only use one car but now that one car they used is now parked because of the rise in fuel and they had to service it which cost a lot of money. They decided to use public transport for the time being as a means of saving money so they sold all their cars.

Nelly soon started gambling ,the money that was meant to keep them afloat at home was thrown into gambling. Phetogo had no choice but to enroll his sister into rehab because if he didn't, the streets would be what they called home. He sold the house in phakalane and kept it aside for future use. 2 years later Nelly had made a full recovery and was ready to go home.she was very nervous as to what she would find waiting for her out there, what she would do when she got out .what scared her the most was that she knew she would be a nobody in her own words.she would be like everyone else no money nothing to her name.How people would treat her because truth be told she was plain rude.

Just as she was deep in her thoughts the nurse came in,"are u ready to go? Your brother is by the reception waiting for you".With a forced smile Nelly replied,"yeah um done I can't wait to leave this place but I will miss you guys so much. Maybe I should have another break down so I come back sooner ". They both laugh and help her carry her bags our to Phetogo. It was a long uncomfortable ride home with Phetogo. Nelly didn't really know what to say to him because she was ashamed of how she treated her brother, how they left things when she got admitted into rehab.

Finally they got home and home had changed. After selling the mansion Phetogo decided to rent a 1 room because it was all he could afford. He found a job at a filling station and in a year he got promoted.He found himself a girlfriend by the name Dintle . She was so beautiful inside and out,well mannered just what Phetogo had always wished for. They moved in together as the relationship got serious so now they had no choice but to accommodate Phetogo's sister.

Nelly: hello!

Dintle:Hi its so nice to finally meet you. I am Dintle Phetogo's girlfriend and I assume you must be Nelly his sister.

Nelly: wow so you know me.

Dintle: Yes I do your brother always talks about you .

Nelly: Oh and I hope it's only good things that he tells you about me nothing bad.

Dintle: Definitely only good that I can assure you. Well um still cooking but please take a chair and sit down, feel at home.

Nelly: Thank you every much.

Nelly took a chair and sat outside with Phetogo as he polished his shoes. "So re tlile re didimetse mo koloing and tota ne ke sa itse gore ke simolole fa kae. I want to apologize for everything I have done to you and said .You were right I was acting like a spoilt brat and all I can say is that rehab really helped me. It opened my eyes to a whole new world and I got to deal with stuffed away feelings I never knew I had. I thank you for dragging me there."

It was silent for some time then he replied," I am happy you healed and dealt with your feelings and for the big change I see. I don't hate you I love you and I always have . As your elder brother it's my duty to guide and protect you even if you annoy me. Our parents are nolonger present to take care of us so it's just me and you against the world and I can't always stay mad at u".

They both laugh.

Nelly:so I see u have managed to stay on your feet even though it's not much but it's something.

Phetogo: Yeah as you can see um trying to stay alive and even though my job doesn't pay as much as I would like it to atleast I can have a meal every night.

Nelly: So what happened to the house ?

Phetogo: I sold it i could no longer afford to live there. If you don't mind me asking what do you plan to do with your life.

Nelly: To be honest i dont know I haven't thought that far but for now I need to focus o getting a job atleast so I can stay busy. If I don't I might go back to gambling again and we don't want that I mean I just came out of rehab.

Phetogo: Yeah that's true and that is one of the many reasons y I will help you find a job. I can't lose my sister again ,now can I?

Nelly: no we can't have that happening to us again .

They both laugh.

After a few months of sleeping , being lazy and bored to death all alone at home most of the time Nelly finally got a call from Phetogo telling her that he got a job for her as a maid at one of the mansions at phakalane. She was overflowed with joy to hear such great news. Atleast now she would have something to do and have her own money. Not forgetting to help around the house and standing on her own two feet. It was not a job that she would have preferred but its a start.

Early in the morning Nelly got up to get ready to go to work. It was her first day and she was so excited. As soon as she arrived she quickly had to discuss her salary and duties with her employer. She would get 1 800 per month but she felt it was peanuts. Still she went on to begin her chores for the day. She was not even half way through but she was now tired. Nelly never did any cleaning in her life let alone make a sandwich for her self. She felt she had enough and quit her job the very same day.

She didn't know what to say to her brother about the job so she lied and told him that she got a cold and couldn't show up. She decided to drop applications at the mall the very next morning. Atlest there she would only have to pack shelves all day and how hard could that be? More months passed when she got a call from Choppies super market to go for an interview the next morning at 8 am sharp. She got to the interview and charmed them away,in no time she got the job. She was going to be a packer as she had applied and little did she know she also had to handle the offloading of stock apon arrival at the store which was no game.

She worked for a month then quit .Nelly felt the job was a heavy-duty one that was meant for men only. The only reason she didn't leave on the first day was so that she could impress her brother and that he may not suspect her because of lying as to why she quit the job. Phetogo now had to go be a manager at one of their many branches outside the country the next month and that meant Nelly now really had to start looking for a job one that she would keep permanently. Given that she didn't have enough time to look for one since her brother had to leave soon she had a lot of stress.

She now realized that she was just wasting time all along picking jobs instead of just focusing on making money to be able to stand on her own two feet.
