“I’m so pleased I could leave most of my furniture in the cottage,” Melinda said, hands on her hips, surveying the pile of boxes in the middle of Rowan’s living room. Rowan was in the kitchen making tea. It had taken all day to bring the last of Lin’s stuff up from Helmsley to the island. “It’ll be better once we’ve got the attic properly fitted out for you,” she said, coming out holding two mugs. She put them down on top of the boxes on the coffee table. “I’m really pleased you’ve made the leap.” She took Lin’s hands and tugged her close, wrapping her arms around her as she rested against the back of the sofa. “It’s been a long six months.” And it had.
