Chapter 7Sam watched the trip counter click past two miles. Neither of them had uttered another word in the few long minutes since leaving the rest area. The rain had eased slightly, but water still flowed down the road like a river, trickling and bubbling over small stones worked loose from the verge. Sam continually scanned the dark brooding skies, any second expecting to see the lights of a helicopter bearing down on them.
