An unearthly silence seemed to descend over the room in the seconds after that poor guard's life was so brutally and meaninglessly extinguished before our eyes. I couldn't even process the reality of what I'd just witnessed - the violence had erupted with such sudden, shocking savagery. One instant the man was sitting there, bound but unharmed like the others. The next, his...his mutilated remains coated the walls in a thick, visceral legacy of legalized murder. The metallic, coppery scent of his rapidly cooling blood hung thick and nauseating in the air. I fought back the primal urge to vomit, to scream, to give in fully to the stark horror that threatened to shatter my psyche into a million pieces.
