As the days went by, Sam and Jake's relationship continued to grow stronger. They spent more time together, and Sam found herself feeling more and more comfortable around Jake.
One day, Jake asked Sam to meet him at his house. He had a surprise for her, he said. Sam's curiosity was piqued, and she couldn't wait to see what Jake had planned.
When she arrived at Jake's house, she was greeted by the sound of laughter and music. Emma, Jake's daughter, was playing in the backyard, and Jake was standing in the kitchen, cooking up a storm.
"Hey," Jake said, smiling as he saw Sam. "I'm making your favorite dinner. Chicken parmesan."
Sam's heart melted at the thoughtfulness. "That sounds amazing," she said, feeling a sense of gratitude.
As they sat down to eat, Sam felt a sense of contentment wash over her. This was what she had been missing, she realized. A sense of family, of belonging.
After dinner, Jake took Sam's hand and led her outside to the backyard. Emma was playing on the swings, and Jake sat down next to her.
"Hey, kiddo," Jake said, smiling at Emma. "I want to talk to you about something."
Emma looked up at Jake curiously. "What is it, Daddy?" she asked.
Jake took a deep breath. "Sam and I have been spending a lot of time together, and I was wondering if you'd be okay with us being more than just friends."
Emma's face lit up with a smile. "I'd love it if Sam was my mommy," she said, her voice filled with excitement.
Sam's heart melted at the sweet words. She looked at Jake, and saw the love and adoration in his eyes.
"I'd love that too," Jake said, smiling at Sam.
As they hugged, Sam felt a sense of joy and happiness that she hadn't felt in a long time. Maybe, just maybe, she and Jake could make this work.
