The Storm Before the Calm

356 Words
The happiness of the night before felt like a dream as I walked into the manor the next morning. But the atmosphere had changed. The air felt heavy again, and the servants were whispering in the halls. I found Alexander in his study, but he wasn't the tender man who had kissed me under the moonlight. He was staring out the window, his back rigid, a legal envelope clutched in his hand. "Alexander?" I asked softly, stepping into the room. "What's happened?" He turned around, and my heart sank. His eyes were cold again—the "Ice CEO" had returned. He tossed the envelope onto the desk. Inside were photos of me meeting with a man in a dark alleyway two weeks ago. "Isabella sent these," he said, his voice dangerously quiet. "She claims you’ve been selling company secrets to my rivals since the day you signed the contract. She says our 'romance' was just a cover for you to steal from me." I gasped, my hand flying to my mouth. "That man is my cousin, Alexander! He was bringing me my father’s old ledgers so I could help clear his name. I would never betray you!" "Then why didn't you tell me?" he barked, slamming his hand on the desk. "I gave you everything, Bliss. I gave you my trust. I gave you my heart. And you kept secrets from me?" "I was ashamed!" I cried, tears streaming down my face. "I didn't want you to see more of my family's mess. I wanted to be your equal, not another problem for you to solve." Alexander looked at me, the anger in his eyes battling with the love I knew was still there. But before he could speak, his phone rang. It was the board of directors. The photos had gone viral. "Get out," he whispered, looking away. "I have to fix this. I can't look at you right now." I stumbled out of the room, my heart shattered into a million pieces. The contract was supposed to save my family, but it had ended up costing me the only man I ever truly loved.
