As the car drove away from the hospital, Amby felt a mix of emotions. She was relieved that the event was over, but at the same time, she felt a pang of disappointment. She had to admit, she had enjoyed the attention from Gabe, the way he had held her close and introduced her as his fiancée.
But as soon as she realized that she was enjoying it, Amby reprimanded herself. This was just an act, a fake relationship to benefit Gabe's business and serve as their cover while she does the risky job of finding the ancient artifact. She could not let herself get caught up in the fantasy.
Determined to put some distance between them, Amby subtly shifted away from Gabe in the car, creating a small gap between them. Gabe, lost in his own thoughts, did not seem to notice as he worked on his phone.
