1552 Words
Maya stood in front of the mirror, her heart racing as she turned to check her reflection. The black sleeveless bodycon dress hugged her curves, glimmering with white stone sparkles that caught the light with every movement. “Ugh, the makeup is too much,” she muttered, wiping at her cheek, smudging the smoky eye Sasha had created. “Stop it, Maya! Today is party day!” Sasha chimed, her excitement radiating through the room. “The party is hosted by the Morrison family, so we need to be the outstanding ones!” She adjusted the straps of her own white off-shoulder knee-length dress, beaming with confidence. Maya took another glance at her reflection, her brow furrowing. “Okay, let me do my hair,” she said, reaching for a hair tie. Sasha smacked her hand away. “Ouch!” Maya whimpered, rubbing her wrist. “Forget about your high ponytail today,” Sasha insisted, her fingers deftly adjusting Maya’s wavy hair. “Free hair! End of the story.” Maya chuckled, surrendering. “Okay, my dear Madame, I will follow whatever you say today.” “Good for you, babe!” Sasha declared, her pride shining through. Maya turned to face her friend, who looked stunning. They slipped on their matching heels and grabbed their purses, the anticipation of the evening electrifying the air between them. “Ready?” Sasha asked with a grin. “Ready!” Maya echoed, though a flutter of nerves twisted in her stomach. The cab ride to the club felt surreal. As they approached, Maya’s heart raced at the thought of Ryan. His face danced in her mind, igniting a blush that crept across her cheeks. “Do you think I look okay?” she asked Sasha as they stepped out. “Babe, you look fire,” Sasha reassured her, linking their arms as they approached the entrance. At the door, they showed their invitations to the guard, who nodded them through. Maya’s gaze swept over the crowd, feeling both exhilarated and uneasy under the weight of countless eyes on them. “Is my dress too sexy?” she whispered to Sasha. “Yes!” Sasha replied without missing a beat, her eyes glinting with mischief. “What?” Maya gasped, her cheeks flushing. “Don’t spoil the fun, babe!” Sasha laughed, dragging her into the club. Inside, the opulence of the club took their breath away. The interior was adorned with shimmering chandeliers and plush seating, a world apart from their usual hangouts. “Let’s get a spot at the bar!” Sasha declared, pointing to the counter lined with glimmering bottles. They settled on bar stools, surveying the scene. Familiar faces from various packs mingled, and Maya’s pulse quickened with the thought of Alerick possibly showing up. “I hope he doesn’t ruin this for me,” she murmured, scanning the crowd for Ryan. After a few moments, the lights dimmed, and a spotlight hit the stage. A voice rang out over the speakers, announcing Bella’s entrance. Maya’s mouth dropped open as guards filed onto the stage, followed by dancers. Then, Bella entered, looking like a princess in her pink gown, carrying her bouquet with grace. Behind her, Alpha Ryan strode forward, a commanding presence in his sleek black suit. Maya’s wolf leaped with joy, calling out to Ryan. Their eyes locked, and a shiver traveled down Maya’s spine. She swallowed hard, feeling heat rise to her cheeks. The distance between them felt electric, as if they were the only two in the room. Sasha leaned closer, her excitement palpable. “That’s Alpha Xander and Luna Lily,” she pointed, nodding toward the Alpha couple. Maya studied them, feeling a chill. “I don’t get a good vibe from the Luna, though,” she blurted, covering her mouth as she realized her mistake. “I know, right? She’s a snake coated in cotton,” Sasha whispered back, their eyes locking in shared amusement. As the Alpha’s family welcomed guests, Sasha turned to Maya. “Beer or liquor?” she asked, her eyes sparkling with mischief. “Or wine?” she continued, watching Maya’s puzzled expression. “I… I don’t know. I’ve only had wine before,” Maya admitted, her nerves bubbling again. “Okay then, liquor it is!” Sasha decided, waving down the bartender. “Two glasses of liquor with Coke and ice, please!” Maya’s eyes widened. “I’m scared!” “Don’t worry! I’m here for you, babe. Let the alcohol kick in!” Sasha said, handing a drink to Maya. “Cheers!” Sasha cheered, raising her glass. Maya hesitated, staring down at the drink, then finally clinked her glass against Sasha’s. “Cheers!” As they sipped their drinks, Maya scanned the room, but Ryan seemed to be lost in the crowd. She took her time with the liquor, feeling the warmth spread through her, while Sasha was already feeling the effects. “I’ll be back,” Sasha said suddenly, excitement evident as she dashed away. “Stay here!” “Sasha!” Maya called after her friend, but Sasha was already gone, leaving Maya alone at the bar. Leaning back, Maya closed her eyes, letting the music wash over her. The sorrow she’d felt earlier started to fade, replaced by a sense of freedom. But time slipped away, and soon, she began to worry about Sasha. Checking her watch, she noticed several minutes had passed. “Where is she?” Maya wondered aloud. Deciding to search for her friend, Maya slid off her stool and wandered through the crowd. She made her way toward the washroom, but Sasha wasn’t there. A sense of dread crept in as she moved toward the hallway, peering into the darkness. Then she spotted a staircase leading up. “Sasha?” she called softly, hearing a faint whimpering sound. She hurried up the stairs, her heart racing. “Sasha? Oh my Goddess!” Panic set in as she reached the top, finding Sasha sitting on the floor, clutching her chest and trembling. “What happened to you?” Maya rushed to her side, wrapping her arms around her friend. Sasha hugged her back, tears flowing as she whimpered. “I… I got my wolf,” she stammered. Maya’s heart soared with joy, tears of happiness spilling down her cheeks. “Are you sure?” she asked, barely able to contain her excitement. Sasha nodded vigorously, pulling Maya into another tight embrace. “I’m so happy for you!” Maya exclaimed, feeling overwhelmed with pride for her friend. “But…” Sasha hesitated, her voice cracking. “But what?” Maya urged, concern creeping in. “I think… I think my mate is here,” Sasha whispered, her eyes wide. Maya’s heart skipped a beat. “What do you mean?” she asked, her mind racing to Ryan. “Don’t say it’s Alpha Ryan!” Maya blurted out, then covered her mouth, letting out a small chuckle. She couldn’t help herself; the thought was both ridiculous and thrilling. “I don’t know who it is, but I can feel it,” Sasha said, her gaze drifting to the ceiling as if searching for an answer. “I can smell him.” “Is that mint scent?” Maya asked, her heart pounding with curiosity, remembering Ryan’s signature aroma. “No,” Sasha shook her head. “It’s something like passion fruit.” Maya felt a wave of relief wash over her. “Okay, okay, just relax. Close your eyes and feel the scent,” she instructed, glancing around to make sure they were alone. Sasha followed her lead, her body trembling with anticipation. “The scent is getting closer, Maya,” she whispered, her eyes fluttering shut. Suddenly, a low growl echoed through the hallway, and both girls froze. Maya helped Sasha to her feet, their breaths quickening as they heard footsteps approaching. “Relax, that must be your mate,” Maya reassured her, though her own heart raced. From the shadows, Beta Lucas emerged, his eyes glowing a fiery red. Maya felt a surge of fear wash over her, glancing nervously at Sasha. But then she noticed Sasha’s eyes transforming into a deep purplish hue, signaling her wolf’s awakening. “Lucas?” Sasha uttered, her voice quivering with disbelief. “Mate,” Lucas growled softly, stepping closer. Maya watched, breathless, as Lucas locked eyes with Sasha. “I, Lucas Douglas, Beta of Blue Moon Pack, accept the Female Beta Sasha Noble from Blue Moon Pack as my mate and future wife, with the witness of the Moon Goddess.” Sasha burst into tears, joy flooding her features. Maya felt happiness swell in her chest, unable to find words to describe her elation. Lucas stepped forward, pulling Sasha close and kissing her tenderly, their bond solidifying in that moment. Maya’s cheeks flushed, and she turned her head away, granting them privacy. After a moment, Sasha dashed off, excitement radiating from her as she left the rooftop to embrace her newfound connection. Alone, Maya stood in the quiet space, overwhelmed with emotions. She had come to the party with uncertainty and anxiety, but now her heart was full for her best friend. She knew the storm was coming. But for tonight, happiness was enough.
