CHAPTER TWENTY “They are sleeping,” the elf said calmly, unperturbed by his anger. “Do not worry about them. They are safe here. Follow me,” the elf turned and began to walk through the trees. Broderick hesitantly followed. The elf’s movements were graceful and fluid. Not even the dead leaves on the forest floor crunched under his feet. As they walked, Broderick became aware of more elves among the trees. The trees served as their homes, as best as he could guess. There were no doors, but many trees had curved archways leading into them. He marveled as elves came and went, walking into and out of the massive trees.
