Before Rowan could reply, Liora hung up.
Killian had only heard her agree to give up the project—everything else, he ignored.
He ordered her release, then sped off toward Lila. The roar of his engine faded into the night.
As he disappeared, the last trace of longing in Liora's heart turned to ash.
She didn't return to the Pierce residence that day. Instead, she wandered the streets for hours before finally making her way back to her family's mansion.
Her father's heart ached at the sight of her gaunt face. He pulled her into an embrace.
"Liora, tell me everything. I'm here for you. Did that bastard Killian hurt you again?"
Liora forced a smile, nestling against him like a child.
"This is the last time, Dad. I've divorced him. The papers will be ready in a month."
Rafe Thorne froze. After a long moment, he gently pinched her cheek.
"You should've done this sooner. My daughter doesn't belong in that cursed family. Killian never deserved you."
After a quiet talk, he handed her a glass of warm milk and sent her to bed.
She didn't sleep that night.
Sometime later, muffled sobbing drifted up from downstairs.
Liora quickly got dressed and went down.
At the gates, a woman dripping in gaudy jewelry knelt, crying out, "Liora, please come home! Stop being stubborn with Killian. I swear there's nothing between us…"
Liora's gaze fell on the ring hanging from the woman's neck.
It was her first birthday gift to Killian.
He had never worn it.
And now it hung there—like a trophy.
With a sharp motion, she tore it off. The chain snapped as she wiped her hands as though they had touched something filthy.
"Whatever is between you and Killian means nothing to me. But this necklace? I paid five million for it. On you, it's wasted."
"Liora!"
Lila clenched her fists, her nails digging into her palms as her expression twisted into a shrill, broken laugh.
"Wasted? You think a five-million trinket could tie Killian down? Today he chose me over you. Tomorrow, he'll hand me your entire fortune as a bonus! You're just something he's already thrown away. How dare you question me?"
She stepped closer, eyes gleaming.
"Watch carefully. Soon, this necklace, the title of Mrs. Pierce, and everything you own will be mine. Someone like you, who only knows how to flaunt money, is no match for me."
Liora's stomach churned at every word.
Finally, she shoved Lila hard.
With a sly smile, Lila let herself fall, hitting the ground with a dramatic thud.
"Lila!"
Killian rushed forward, panic in his voice.
"Are you okay?!"
Lila forced a weak smile, her face pale.
"I'm fine… but I… I might lose the baby. What a pity—I didn't even get to tell you. Maybe I'm just not worthy. Please don't blame Liora… I never should've come back…"
Each word deepened the fury in Killian's gaze as he looked at Liora.
He scooped Lila into his arms, his face contorted with panic—an expression Liora had never seen before.
"Get a doctor! Now!" he roared.
His hands were trembling.
So even Killian could be afraid.
Liora had long been used to his indifference. Seeing him care so deeply for someone else, she felt absurd.
Clutching the necklace, she watched him leave.
With a sharp flick of her wrist, she hurled it into the pond.
Now it was as tainted as he was.
She had no use for trash.
