She beamed a welcome, almost curtsied. Like being in the family pile crossed his mind. He entered the hallway the size of a small room and put down his cases. There was a table and two chairs suggesting it might double as a dining area. A five-shelved bookcase, with ornaments as well as books, filled the entire wall opposite the front door. He was ushered into a kitchen to the right. It was large. His gaze fell on a large gas cylinder in one corner. Kenneth raised an eyebrow. A glass of freshly squeezed orange was thrust into his hand with a nervous greeting of 'Welcome, Welcome.' Kenneth downed the orange gratefully, trying hard to suppress a yawn. The old lady giggled sympathetically. She opened the 'fridge door, indicating the dishes inside were gifts from her by pressing a flat palm
