Kyle cussed under his breath. This was the last thing he expected to happen. How was he supposed to explain MJ's presence to Logan?
"You are stressing out for nothing, I'll handle Logan," MJ said while strapping up her heels.
She stood up and fixed her hair and suit, and then she grabbed her purse and car keys, and walked out, with Kyle in tow.
Logan's face changed as soon as he saw her, a huge scowl on his face. "What are you doing here?" He snarled.
MJ chortled. "I came to see the results of your reckless behaviour," she retorted.
"Excuse me?"
Kyle felt like disappearing, it was as if the only thing keeping them from tearing each other apart was the gate between them.
"Logan, are you going to tell the entire world that you are the reason I ended up in hospital?" Kyle decided to finally get involved. "It is bad enough that this accident brought you back into my life, but now you have brought this woman along." He said angrily, throwing MJ a look.
She smirked, a mischievous glint in her eyes as if to say she was proud of him. "Logan darling, get your car out of my way before I do it for you," she said with a tight grin.
Logan glared at her, but did not say a word, he got into his car and parked it on the side.
MJ also got into her car, and only then did Kyle open the gate, allowing her to drive out.
She rolled down her window and stuck her head out. "I'll see you soon, boys!" She honked at them and sped away.
Logan narrowed his eyes at Kyle and started his car, driving to the same spot MJ's car was parked.
He got out of the car in fury. "What was she doing here?"
"She wouldn't be here at all if you hadn't told her about the poisoning. Best believe, she wasn't even remorseful." Kyle said, jogging up the stairs.
Logan followed him up and made himself comfortable in the lounge. "She's a pain in the ass," he muttered.
Kyle rolled his eyes. "Last time I heard she was a bitch."
"That too."
Kyle sighed. The drama never ended with these two. "Would you like something to drink?"
"Yes, please. Whiskey on the rocks."
"Isn't too early for alcohol, Logan? Are you planning to get drunk before work?" Kyle asked, pouring the alcohol nevertheless. "Why are you here?" He handed Logan the alcohol and sat next to him.
Logan gulped down his whiskey. "What do you think? I'm here to drown my sorrows and get away from my siblings. Cameron did not sleep at home, and Montana left early this morning. And on top of that, I received a text from Lola, telling me that Montana was messing with her husband."
"What do all these women see on that scarface?"
"Tell me about it. I don't have time for all their drama. I don't have any children, but here I am, raising f*****g adults."
Kyle looked at him, remembering the conversation he had with MJ a few minutes ago. Logan had a daughter and he didn't even know about it.
His quest to find his family made him an easy target for women like Carmen who wanted to glue themselves to his wallet. He desperately wanted to have his own family in order to have everything he never had growing up; stability, love, and joy.
"Do you see yourself getting married and having your own family in future?" He asked.
Logan's face changed, and he tried hard to hide his pain. "Do you want to know the truth?" He asked, a small smile on his face. "It's the one thing I want more than anything in this world, Kyle. But it's a far-fetched dream, something that won't happen in a while. I can't bring children into this mess I call life, not while I still don't know who I am, not while things are still the way they are with MJ."
Kyle frowned. "What has MJ got to do with any of this?"
Logan snickered. "What do you think? As much as I hate to admit it, I can't see myself with anyone besides her, it can only be MJ Billings; it has always been her." He sighed. "There's just one problem, Kyle?"
"And that is?"
"She's a completely different person. There's no trace of the girl I fell in love with fourteen years ago."
"She's no longer a little girl, Logan."
Logan exhaled. "I know," he said, staring into space. "Enough about me, you are a free man, what are your plans? You never talk about yourself, even back then. What are your dreams and aspirations? Surely you didn't just wake up and decided that you were going to manage your father's business."
Kyle felt a heavy feeling settle in his heart, he never wanted to discuss his life because he did not have one. He was a sore loser who never really had an identity of his own. He was a third wheel in their friendship, sometimes he wished he was them.
But now that he saw them closer, he realised that they were miserable. He realised that Logan was right, Kyle always had everything, he just did not see it because he spent all his life looking at his friends' fake lives.
He was always good at sports back in high school, but he always felt like it was not enough. By grade 10, Logan already knew he wanted to design ships, and even today, he was still passionate about it, he even started his own transport business. Jorge was always talkative and a serial liar, everyone always said he would be a great lawyer, and today he was one of the best lawyers in the cooperate world.
Kyle was too old now, there was no way he would make a career from sports
He shrugged. "We'll see as time goes on, Logan. We will see," he admitted. He was still waiting for Sne to do her part and finalise the divorce, he had almost forgotten about it. Maybe it was time he gave her a little push.
Without thinking much about it, he grabbed his phone and sent her a text. The clock was ticking.
