Liam could not understand how he got here. From being a chauffeur and bodyguard to being an errand boy.
At first, he was more than happy to follow MJ's orders in pursuit of gaining her trust again, but this had gone on for too long.
He needed excitement in his life, and running after a teenage girl was not his style.
"Getting bored of the chase already? It was just getting exciting."
He did not even bother looking up, he knew that voice really well.
It was said that teenagers were troublesome, but this one took things to a whole new level, one would swear she was trained to be a criminal from the first day she could lift her feet.
She had a fierce personality, she was rogue, unruly, unpredictable, and overall wild in her pursuit in life. She reminded him so much of MJ.
"Aren't you too young to be here?" He asked, taking a sip of his drink.
She sighed dreamily. "Mr Chauffeur, I'm Esparanza Montero, and I can do whatever the hell I want whenever I want."
He snorted. "Must he nice to be you, I can get access to every hotel, except for the one you are currently staying at."
The hotel she was staying at belonged to Javier Mendoza, that did not surprise him considering the fact that there was a historical connection between the Mendozas and Monteros, it only made sense for Javier to protect Esparanza Montero.
The people at the entrance knew who Liam was, the entire place was heavily guarded as if they were accommodation the president in their hotel. It was no surprise either that she came with guard to the club too.
"What does your boss want from me, hmm?"
That was a great question, he too was dying to find out the reason behind MJ's obsession with Esparanza Montero. He did not quite buy the story she told him the other day about wanting to trap the girl's father.
"I could ask you the same thing, what's so important about you?" He challenged. "What is it about you that has people sitting on the edge of their seats?"
She shrugged, seemingly uncertain for a moment. For a second, he saw the little that she was. "My father says that our family name, being a Montero, is a curse. We can't have normal lives because we aren't normal people."
"But don't you want that, to be normal?"
Esparanza chuckled. "I don't know about being normal, but one thing for sure, this is not going to be my life forever... Drugs, money laundering, arms dealing, crime... it is all going to be something of the past."
Liam wanted to ask her what she meant, what did she plan on doing? Everybody knew that being a Montero was a legacy on its own, a legacy that needed to be carried on from generation to generation. It was true that they could not have normal lives because they were not normal people, it did not only come with the name, but with the kind of life they led. It was the same story for every family that made a living from crime.
They raised their children to be "normal" until they reached a certain age where they had to learn about the family business and start bringing in money.
"Don't feel sorry for me, Mr Chauffeur, I'm a big girl," she said, sounding as if she was trying to convince herself than him.
He actually felt sorry for her. "Don't worry, my boss will never know about this meeting," he reassured her.
She laughed and jumped off her chair. "Oh, well... I guess you better start thinking of a great cover story because she has been calling you since I got here."
He looked down at his phone and back at her, and she winked at him before she left.
Dammit! Hello thought, taking a huge sip of his beer before answering his phone, turned out he did not even have to make up a story.
"Liam, there's been a change of plans. Leave Esparanza to me, I have a new mission for you, you have to get back to London ASAP. I will give you the rest of the details later. The private jet is ready for your dispatch, don't waste another second."
"Roger that, ma'am!" He raised his beer in the air as the line went off.
Finally! He thought, this cat and mouse game was starting to get on his nerves.
He wondered, however, how exactly MJ was planning on dealing with Esparanza. It was no secret that Liam and Cameron were huge disappointments when it came to that, perhaps things would work out for the better if she handled the girl herself.
If she was planning on coming to Ireland, especially with Aaron McEnroe's party planning in motion, she would probably get more than she anticipated, especially with Sandra Cooper in the country. How was MJ going to react once she connected Sandra to Esparanza and Aaron McEnroe, as well as Alastair Cooper's death?
He did not know, but he also did not want to stick around to find out.
