14 // White Lies

"Oh, oh! Here comes trouble," MJ cooed as Sne's car pulled up at the gate. What is she doing here? Kyle thought. As if reading his mind, MJ said cunningly, "either this is just a coincidence or someone called her." "I bet on my life it is the later," he muttered. He had no doubt that one of the journalists tipped her off, they desperately wanted hot gossip to make the front page. Kyle pressed the remote in his pocket and opened the gate for her, and then he turned to his companion who rather had a devious look on her face. He should have known her visit had absolutely nothing to do with his poisoning, it was the perfect excuse she could have for coming to see him, at least that was what everyone would think, especially Logan. "Perhaps I should leave," she said, slowly turning her body towards him. "So, what lie are you going to spin to your soon-to-be ex-wife?" She was really the devil in an expensive suit. MJ was amazing, but he would never tell her that, she knew she was beautiful and attractive, and that most men who knew her lusted after her, but she also had a powerful aura, a sense of independence that made men feel like there was nothing in this world they could offer because she had everything. She was intimidating. That was one thing he liked about her, it was a very important trait he could do with in the business industry. He hoped to work with her in the future, but they still had to get to that. However, she also presented him with a lot of red flags. MJ Billings was the definition of danger, and anyone who associated with her was bound to get hurt at some point. She and Logan were exactly the same, they were made for each other, but the very thing that they had in common repelled them against each other. They both wanted to be dominant over the other person, Logan wanted to tame MJ while she wanted the same with him. "Don't worry yourself about that, just don't say a word to her," he said. She smirked. "Scared that she might recognise my voice and realise that I'm the woman who made a spectacle of her in public and ruined her marriage?" She quipped, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "Or are you afraid that she is going to find out that you gave me that information?" Kyle clenched his jaw, he could not believe that behind all that beauty laid thorns for a heart. She really wanted to get him into trouble. He gave her a daring smile. "After everything that happened, I don't want to delay the divorce process, so I got myself another lawyer," he answered her earlier question. "A new lawyer?" Sne's voice came from the door, and Kyle turned to her in panic. How long had she been standing there? Fortunately, MJ nodded at him and walked out before Sne could say anything to her. "Yes. You didn't think I was going to just sit around and do nothing after what you did, did you?" He asked and walked back into the house as soon as MJ drove away. Sne followed him inside. "Kyle, you know it was a mistake." "Sne, you really don't want to go there right now, you wanted to kill someone and in the process you ended up nearly killing me." She looked at him in panic. "Did you tell your lawyer about that?" She asked. He stilled as her words hit his ears. How did MJ know that Sne was responsible for the poisoning? Did Logan go through all the trouble of updating her on everything? He put on his vest and started tidying up his place, something that was difficult to do with Sne following him around like a lost puppy. His house was dirty, that was probably why MJ went straight to the balcony. He cringed at the thought. "Kyle, did you hear what I said to you?" He sighed. "Yes, I heard you, and believe me, I am not going to sell you out, but you are going to convince your parents that it is best for your family to leave the business entirely." "What?" She bellowed. "You want my family to leave the company they worked so hard to build?" "Really? You know, my lawyer said something interesting, she said that your parents will never throw you under the bus for money, she was right. But are you willing to go to prison just for your parents to remain in the company? Because trust me, even if you end up going to jail, I am going to personally make sure that I drive your parents out of the company, they are going to leave at their own free will and guess what? They will lose both their daughter and their company." Sne shook her head. "When did you become so evil and heartless?" That was a good question, it appeared that MJ's evil ways were rubbing off on him, he could not believe all those words came out of his own mouth. "This does not have to be hard, let's not waste another second stuck in this miserable arrangement; it is not healthy for neither you nor me." "I don't believe you, Kyle. I just cannot help feeling like this is not you speaking, I feel like this is all your lawyer's doing. I hear your voice and yet I can't help hearing her words. Who exactly is that woman and what does she benefit from our divorce?" Kyle shrugged even though he also wanted an answer to that question. A part of him already knew, it was all about revenge for MJ, he could not be sure, but this probably had to do with their past back in high school, Sne was one of the few people who bullied MJ. MJ was unforgiving. Kyle was not innocent either, but he was not a bully, he only enjoyed teasing her, he would never admit it to anyone but he liked her back then. He used to call her 'Freckles', he smiled at the thought, but his smile quickly vanished when he caught his wife watching him. "Nothing," he said firmly. "No." She shook her head, wiggling her finger. "I don't believe you, it may look like nothing to you, but she sure as hell has an agenda." Kyle was getting annoyed, Sne was really wasting his time, and he really needed to shower after the workout he had, but MJ arrived and now it was her. "You don't know her, you didn't even say a single word to her when you got here and already you think you have her figured out?" He scoffed. "All that energy you are using right now to badmouth her... I know she is not a saint and she has never hidden it, but you on the other hand are a wolf in a sheep's clothing. All that s**t you're busy spewing right now, go home and take a good look in the mirror because I don't recognise you." To say she was shocked would be an understatement of the century. "I thought we had an understanding, Kyle. Where is all this coming from?" He gulped and averted his gaze. "We did, but all that was over the moment you tried to kill me." Sne followed him to the kitchen. "How many times do I have to apologize for that?" He threw the glasses in the sink, their shuttering sound only thickening the tension. "You never apologized, Sne!" He yelled. "I don't want to deal with you or your family any longer than I already have." "Kyle–" "You have 24 hours to make a decision; either we go about this quietly and you and your family walk away scott free, or we drag this to court and you end up spending the rest of your life in prison." "I can't believe you are really doing this, you started this mess!" She yelled. "And who filed for divorce?" She laughed bitterly and bit her tongue. "This was exactly what you wanted, isn't it? You wanted me to initiate the divorce. I thought we were a team!" He hated that she was right about most of the things she said, but at the same time he knew she had no ground to stand on, she was throwing around anything she could think of to save herself, and yet, she did not even believe all the things she was saying. However, she was right. He planned it all, one thing about his dear wife was that she always let her emotions get the best of her, she reacted quickly, made impulsive decisions, and only thought about her actions later. She always wanted out of the marriage, all he had to do was to give her a plausible reason to want to leave him, he knew she was going to file for divorce without verifying the information she got. In reality, she was the one who could not have kids. "We could always go ahead as we planned to, get another lawyer who is going to convince our families to stick together." Kyle laughed. "You don't get it, do you? I want nothing to do with you or your family anymore." "We could fix things." "Until when? Until the next family dinner where my family drops dead in front of yours." "Kyle, how could you say something like that? You know my parents are not like that." He shrugged. "Maybe not your parents, but I have no reason to trust you. Now please, see yourself out." He walked into the bathroom and shut the door.
