"Who are you, and what do you want?" Caroline Becker asked. It had been over three hours since they abandoned the ambulance somewhere where it would take people over a day to locate, and then they called a cab, and they had been sitting at the guest house Samantha was renting out. Luckily, Demi and Carmen were at Demi's house for the time being, something about not staying at the rental house without her because they did not want to be held liable should anything go wrong. "Doctor, you should be nice to me, I am still in possession of your husband's gun, a whole murder weapon. Besides, you should be thanking me, I saved your life. From what I heard, your husband is a monster." "I don't see any difference between you two." Samantha laughed in response, her eyes shining with darkness. "Come on, let's show you to your room, shall we? You need to rest, all this up and down is not good for the baby." She knew the doctor was not going to argue or protest, she followed her upstairs. The room was well secured, it had burglars, and there was a long wall behind it, no one would see her even if she tried any funny stunts. "You can use the shower and do whatever you want. I'm just gonna keep the key, just in case. I'll also keep your phone, who knows? Maybe your husband will call, he must be really worried about you. Goodnight, Doctor." Samantha locked the door from outside and went back downstairs, taking out a smart phone with a broken screen from the paramedic uniform she was wearing. She was holding Doctor Becker's phone on one hand, and Gary's phone on the other. "Okay, who goes first?" She wondered, swinging the phones back and forth. "Between a doctor and a paramedic, during an emergency, who is the first line of defence? Oh, Gary... what shall we do with our nurse friend?" She quickly typed a text on Gary's phone: 'Can we meet at the hospital in an hour? I dropped your friend off, but I think there's something you need to know. It's urgent. P.S. Bring her discharge forms, I want to verify something.' She did not want to get into formalities because she did not know how they communicated, moreover, she was already panicking about the texting style. She threw the phone on the couch and then turned to the doctor's phone. "Okay, let's see what we have here. No password, with a gangster husband? That's bold." She searched through the call log for frequently called contacts, and it was no surprise when she found several missed calls from Caroline's husband. "He must be really bad if she saved his number as Eric Becker. I mean, where are the pet names and heart emojis?" She dialled his number, hoping the phone actually had some airtime to make calls, the phone did not even ring on her side, it was answered immediately. "Caroline, is that you? Are you okay? Where are you?" Eric Becker asked in one breath. Samantha kept quiet just for the fun of it, the fear in his voice was enticing. "Caro?" "Your wife and step baby are fine. For now," she mused. The line went quiet, but she could still hear his breath. "Who are you and what do you want?" Samantha sat down and placed her feet on the dining table, and inhaled deeply. "You know, I don't think I made my intentions clear enough earlier. I know you have already tracked this phone down, and that your men are probably outside cooking up a plan to rescue your wife. But let me make this clear, try anything funny, I dare you to even try rescuing your wife or think of killing me, and your face will be all over the country by tomorrow morning, and you will go to prison." "Just tell me what you want, goddammit!" She moved the phone away from her ear for a moment. "First of all, I want a car. Right now." "Consider it done." She smirked. "Good. Now, let's get down to the real business. A few days ago I was kidn*pped near the marketplace in the city and I was thrown from a moving vehicle, into a hard concrete road." Eric Becker snorted indecently. "And how is that my business?" "It is your goddamn business, Mr Mayor," her voice sliced through the line, her eyes shining dangerously as she threw her legs off the table, burning into space as if cutting down her enemy. "If you had done your job properly and enhanced the lives of the citizens, they would have actually cared enough to save me or anyone who's been in the same situation. But instead, you chose to keep all the money for yourself, sent your wife to med school, built an entire castle, and you are living a lavish lifestyle. So yeah, it is your damn business. If you want to see your wife again, are going to do as I say, or else you will spend the rest of your life replaying her voicemail tone." "I'm listening." "You are going to find my kidnappers, I'm looking for their leader, specifically. They were driving a blue van with tinted windows, I remember bits and pieces of the licence plate, I'll send it to you. Find him and wait for my instruction." She hung up before he could say anything, and then she checked her pistol to make sure that it was loaded. She waited for a few minutes before she heard a car outside. She grabbed her bag and gun, not forgetting Gary's phone, and then she locked the house and left the compound. As promised, there was a black SUV parked outside the gate, and another car driving away. She surveyed the vehicle before getting inside and driving away from the house, and within an hour, she was at the hospital. She had to admit that the security there was weak, they just saw a fancy car and the uniform and they simply let her in, no questions asked. Samantha safely parked and remained in the car before sending another text to the unsuspecting victim. 'Meet me in the laundry room, it is more secure.' Leah: 'You are scaring me now.' "You should be scared," Samantha noted. 'Don't forget the forms.' Leah: 'Okay, I'll be there in a few.' "Great, let's get this done!" She grabbed her bag and hopped out of the car, and then entered the building the same way she got out, secretly. It was so easy to get to the laundry room, plus the area around there was less secured, there were no cameras. The nurse was there in seconds, looking as sharp and suspicious as ever. "Gary!" She whispered, taking cautious steps around the room. Samantha stepped out from the huge laundry basket. "Unfortunately, Gary is a little busy at the moment," she said in the calmest, innocent voice. To say Nurse Leah was horrified, would be putting it lightly. "W-what... What are you doing back here? And where is Gary?" She took a step back. "Do you have my discharge forms?" Leah frowned. "Are you... were you the one texting me from Gary's phone?" She stammered. "What did you do to him?" Samantha smiled sardonically. "Give me the forms first, then I'll tell you where he is. Plus, you have nothing to worry about, I already paid you your money, didn't I? I would never hurt him, he's safely home, I just stole his phone, that's all. He told me that any friend of Leah's was his friend too, so I'm assuming we are now friends. Come on, girl, you have no reason not to trust me, you know my story." The nurse hesitantly handed over the forms. "I need to get back on duty. I'm assuming you want to be readmitted?" She asked. Samantha nodded. "A friend is going to come and get me first thing tomorrow. Do you know Minister Becker?" Leah nodded. "He said this was the safest option for now, but I'll be out of here in a few hours, I need to rest for a bit. I just want to make sure that you don't hand in the discharge forms before then." "Fine, but I can't take you back to your room looking like that, change into a gown. Grab a clean set over there!" The place was a mess, there were nurses uniform, paramedics, doctors uniform, patient gowns, bedding sets including pillows, and a lot of other things. The cleaning team and rye morning shift team were probably going to take care of this. For now, it was less busy, meaning there was no other person coming. Just how Samantha liked it. Perfect. Leah turned to walk away, and Samantha quickly grabbed a pillow and rushed forward, putting the pillow in her face before pulling her down with her. She locked her legs around Leah's body while suffocating her with the pillow. The nurse wriggled in her arms while her hands flung in the air as if she was drowning. Samantha had her in place, there was no way she could escape. She struggled for a while until she stilled in Samantha's hold, her arms falling down. Samantha checked her pulse, and she was gone as the wind. "I'm sorry this had to happen, but I can't leave loose ends," she said as she pushed the body off her. She got up and looked around the room, looking for the perfect way to stage crime scene. Too bad no one would notice she was dead until tomorrow morning. Samantha changed into a hospital gown and stuffed the paramedic uniform in her bag, and then she snuck back into her ward and drifted into the best nap she had in a while.
