Logan was taken aback by Kyle's outburst, it appeared that he walked in at a bad time. He ran into Snegugu on the way and he had no doubt in his mind that she had something to do with this.
Kyle was seated at his desk, with his hands over his face.
"Shouldn't you be celebrating?" He asked.
"f**k off, Logan," Kyle sniffed.
To tell the truth, he had no idea why he was there. Perhaps he was starting to get comfortable again like he did with Antonina Dos Santos. Logan had attachment issues, once you were good to him, he found it difficult to walk away.
It was ironic because Kyle was not exactly being friendly with him, but even though it was not voluntarily, he might as well have taken a bullet for him, and Logan saw an opportunity to have a "friend."
It was a scary reality, but Logan was afraid of being alone, and spending all that time with Antonina was a reminder of how much he was missing out on. He had never had a family or a good upbringing, between an adoptive father who was never around and a stepmother that gave him no peace, he never knew what it was like to have a home until now.
He often wondered about his parents, whether they were still alive and if they ever thought about him. He found himself wondering who they were and where they were from. He spent his entire life wondering if his life would have been different if they had been with him, perhaps he would never have turned to crime for comfort. But then again, he asked himself, what if crime was their legacy?
Growing up, he was never really close to Cameron and Montana; Jorge, Kyle, and Lola were his family. And then when he met MJ, he saw someone he wanted to grow old with; she was so spontaneous and never tried too hard to fit in, she was quiet and yet so outspoken, and she was a girl with big dreams. But now... there was no trace of the girl he once knew, and she was the last person he would turn to for comfort.
Kyle on the other hand had always been a good listener. Logan always saw him as the perfect lamb in the group, he had great parents, a home, and he was always happy. He was a great guy, until Logan and Jorge turned his life upside down.
Logan could only imagine what he went through with the accident. He was afraid to ask, but a part of him knew that it had triggered bad memories. That was a phase in their lives neither of them wanted to get into, they never spoke about it.
Not that he minded, but he knew every truth had its way of coming out. He did not want anyone to know, especially MJ Billings, he did not want her to see how much she had broken him.
"Have you seen the article Sasha wrote about you?" He asked.
"Sasha did not write an article about me."
Logan smirked. "Oh, so you read that article. I wonder what she would say if she found out that you were crying in front of your employees because Sne gave you divorce papers."
Kyle's head shot up. "That's not true."
"But she doesn't know that."
It took a while for Kyle to finally process his words. "You wouldn't dare," he gritted.
"Come on, Kyle, you know I love a good challenge." Logan stood up straight and walked further into the office, and then pulled Kyle up from his seat. "Let's get out of here." He did not give him a chance to protest, neither did he wait to see if he was following him, he only hoped he would.
By the time he arrived at his car, he was convinced that Kyle was not going to come out, but he did, and they drove in silence until they reached the harbour.
"What are we doing here?" Kyle asked with a huge sigh.
Logan turned off the engine and stepped out of the car. "We are here to drown our sorrows, literally," he said. "Now, follow me and stop whining."
He had called in his workers to prepare the yacht for the day, everything, including food and drinks were ready.
Logan manned the yacht himself, and soon enough, it was just the two of them farther away from civilians and stuck in the middle of the ocean together.
Kyle was stuck in his own world, but Logan did not complain. The whole point of bringing him here was to get him as far away from the city and in a place where he would be able to peacefully clear his head.
"Remember our last day of school?" Kyle asked after what felt like an eternity.
Logan smiled at the memory. "Life used to be a lot easier then. We were young."
"We were free, innocent, and full of dreams."
He remembered that like it was yesterday, he wanted to go to university, but he did not have the funds. Of course, his adoptive father was willing to fund him, but Logan wanted to start out on his own, which was why he started tutoring high school learners in order to raise the money for his studies.
"That's true," he admitted.
"Aren't you mad at him? There must be a piece of you that hates Jorge."
Logan shrugged. "I can't say I hate him, but I haven't forgotten either. He makes hard to..."
Kyle looked at him intently and nodded, but Logan could tell that he was not satisfied with his answer. "And MJ?" He prompted, Logan felt every cell in his body freeze. "She's gonna find out eventually."
He grounded his teeth and clenched his fists. "I'd rather she didn't."
"What are exactly you afraid of?" Kyle challenged. "Are you afraid of her discovering the kind of person Jorge is, or are you afraid of her finding out about your drug addiction?"
Logan was getting pissed off. "Kyle," he said lowly. "One more word from your mouth, and I'm going to toss you into the water and leave the sharks to have their way with you."
Kyle was not fazed by the threat itself, but he knew better than to provoke Logan. "Whatever, man." He stood against the rail and continued drinking his beer in silence.
They both knew that when it came to their past, they were like this yacht, caught in the middle of the endless ocean, waiting for the day the anchor will rail them in.
Logan knew it was inevitable, but he also knew it was not completely impossible, he would do anything and everything to ensure that his past remained in the past.
