25 // Scandalous

Her mind was working overtime again, her blood racing, her heart drumming in the ears.

She had never felt so disrespected in her entire life.

Sonya humiliated her, all Samantha wanted was to see Jorge, she was not going to hurt him, but it was clear that MJ was poisoning everyone against her.

They could have their moment for now, but she was going to have the last laugh.

She had to get Sonya out of the picture before Jorge woke up, if only she could leave this hospital bed, but this was currently her safe space.

If only her two companions were not so useless. She sighed, staring at the two women as they blabbed away.

She could always use Carmen to her advantage, especially when it came to Logan Parker, she needed to get that girl back into Logan's life because she had to know every move he made before he made it, just in case he tried to take her out again.

But she also needed an advantage or a way to take her back in, it was bad enough that he tried to kill her, but it was not something she could use to blackmail him with because she had no proof. If she could just get tangible evidence about his doings, that would work in her advantage.

Demi on the other hand was of no use to her, maybe it would have been much better if it was her sister because Sasha was a daring journalist and probably the only person brave enough to stand up to Logan Parker.

She grabbed the TV remote and skimmed through all the channels, and then complete silence followed as she stopped on a news channel.

Her companions’ eyes hooked to the TV as a man and woman came on screen. They looked like important people, especially the man, while the woman looked like a lost sheep.

"Is that..." Carmen trailed off.

"Yep," Demi confirmed with a nod. "Caroline Becker and her bastard of a husband."

'Earlier this week, we caught up with Cape Town's most elite couple, Dr Eric and Caroline Becker. The couple talked to us about Dr Eric's reelection campaign, and shared the exciting about expecting their first child together.'

Demi gasped, turning to Carmen in shock. "Carmen, please don't tell me that I'm losing my mind, did she say that they are expecting a baby?"

Carmen, as usual, was oblivious to the current situation. "Yeah, now it makes sense. Doctor Becker, Caroline, I mean... she was acting strange, and then she suddenly just vanished without warning," she said. "Anyway, I need to go and check with my new doctor, I need to know when I can remove this thing around my neck." She picked up her handbag and left.

Demi was lost in her own world, her eyes hung on the TV. "This is impossible," she muttered to herself.

"Is something wrong, Demi?" Samantha asked with fake concern.

Demi shook her head. "Doctor Caroline Becker used to work at this hospital, but she quit a few weeks ago. She's a good friend of Logan Parker. Her husband, Dr Eric Becker, is a renowned politician, and he is also the mayor of the City of Cape Town, he has been in the reign for over ten years now. The two of them have been married for close to fourteen years, he was the one who sent his wife to medical school. As you heard for yourself, they are a power couple, meaning they are well known and their business is everyone's business. Eric Becker always preached about the importance of family and he was spotted with his nieces and nephews almost every weekend. For a family man like himself, the world expected that he would have kids by the time his wife finished with Med school, but ten years into their marriage, there was still no child. You can just imagine how that looked for the influential pair, rumours started circulating that Caroline couldn't have kids, but he came to her defence, saying that they were not ready to have kids just yet."

Samantha never thought she would take interest in gossip, but this was quite interesting. "And there hasn't been a child until now?" She pried.

"No, and trust me when I tell you that it had nothing to do with their readiness. You see, they are the perfect couple to the public eye, but if there's anyone who knows what goes on behind closed doors, it would be my sister. Eric has been known to have a wandering eye, and my sister caught his attention. Sasha is ambitious, and once she puts her mind to something, there is no stopping her, she would go as far as sleeping with the devil. Eric Becker was exactly what she needed to get her way, but he also turned out to be a monster, nothing like the man you see on TV. They had an affair for a while, and then things got complicated when he made a crazy offer to her, he wanted her to carry his child. Of course, Sasha was excited about the opportunity to be linked with a man of power, but her bubble was blown when she came to realise that she was part of an experiment. The good doctor wanted to find out, or rather confirm if he really couldn't have children."

Samantha sat up straight. "Well, could he?"

Demi sighed and then shook her head. "No. Doctor Eric Becker can't have kids, he is sterile."

Samantha stared back at the couple on the news. So if the man could not have kids, then it meant that his wife had cheated on him. Maybe this was the ammunition she needed since she had no allies in the city, the man wanted to keep his wife's scandal a secret, and he was willing to raise another man's child. Why was that? If only she could get out of the hospital without anyone knowing.

"Let me go and check up on Carmen, then I'll be on my way. See you soon," Demi said and then left.

"Look, I don't have the money right now, but I promise, I'll pay you as soon as I can. Just give me a few more days." She knew that voice, it was her night shift nurse, the woman was on the phone every other second, talking about money.

"Well, well, well... would you look at that? A miracle," Samantha muttered to herself, a devious smirk on her face.
