The visit to Kyle's went better than she expected, if anything, it was the most interesting event of the day.
The look on Sne's face when she heard that Kyle was getting a new lawyer was satisfactory. Her mind was probably running wild out there, trying to make a decision.
MJ trusted Kyle, as good as he was, sometimes he just needed a little push in the most convenient direction.
He might have been thinking that she was evil when she came up with the solution to all his problems, but she knew that the moment he saw his wife, all he would care about was getting even with her.
There was just something about seeing your murderer's face, especially when they are walking around as if nothing happened, it inspired one. The sweetest thing in life was revenge, the pleasure of taking back your power. Redemption.
That was something she knew too well, it was the one thing she lived for because no matter how she tried to get away from it all, life had a twisted way of putting her right in the middle, with obstacles in every way imaginable.
But she would have the last laugh, soon enough all this would blow over.
After leaving Kyle's place, she did not want to make unnecessary stops on the way, she drove straight to the beach house and was surprised to find Sonya there.
Her heart started to palpitate as she stepped into the house where Sonya was sitting on the couch, staring at a black screen. She looked exhausted and caught up in her own bubble.
MJ could not help but imagine the worst, but she also knew that if anything bad had happened, she would have received an urgent call from the hospital. She shut the door a little roughly to grab Sonya's attention, and the woman's body jerked up as she turned to MJ with tired eyes before surrendering her body to the exhaustion and laid back on the couch.
"I thought I'd find you here, guess I was right," she said quietly.
MJ threw her purse on the couch and then sat on the coffee table, facing Sonya. "What happened?" She asked.
"I called a cab, it's on the way. I just needed to grab a few things for Jorge."
"You could grab one of his cars if you like."
Sonya shook her head. "If I even attempt to drive, Jorge is going to wake up to my corpse. My head is all over the place, I don't want to cause an accident on the road," she said with a deep sigh. "You haven't asked me how he is doing."
MJ sighed and shrugged, crossing her legs. "If anything was wrong I would know."
"The swelling on his head has gone down, they removed the bandages."
But he was still critical. MJ thought as she read Sonya's hopeless eyes.
A car hooter rang from outside, and Sonya slowly sat up, her eyes trailing to the duffel bag on the floor. "People are snooping around, Zoe placed extra guards outside his ward, but I don't think that's gonna help. I think maybe it's best if you made a press release rather than waiting for someone at the hospital to leak the story."
Sonya was right. MJ was surprised that things went this long without any accidents or leakage of images to the media. The hype was currently on Kyle Davids' poisoning and the mass funeral service for the victims of the m******e at La Café.
It was taking momentum since they had to postpone the burials due to the pending investigation, but so far the police had no lead and were forced to release the bodies due to protests from the families of the victims.
After the service tomorrow, people would be hungry for new gossip, if MJ did not take action, her brother would land on the front page.
"I will take care of it, Sonya," MJ said reassuringly.
Sonya nodded timidly and picked the bag, and then headed for the door. "Take care of yourself," she said before getting into the cab.
"Same to you." MJ watched as the car reversed, she wanted to warn Sonya about Samantha, but she did not want to worry her, she would deal with Samantha soon. She went back inside the house just in time before her phone started ringing. "MJ Billings speaking," she answered and plopped on the couch.
"Miss Billings, this is Liam."
She quickly sat up. She had not heard from him since the last time she saw him in London when she tasked him with finding Esperanza. "Liam, you are quite difficult to get hold of."
Liam chuckled. "Oh, well... what can I say? It is difficult being constantly on the move from one country to another. I can't keep up with the time changes."
That did not sound good at all, Esperanza was giving him the runaround. "I take it you don't have any good news for me."
"As far as Esperanza is concerned, no. She's very slippery. Our latest destination is Ireland."
MJ's eyes perked up in interest. The last time she encountered Esperanza was in Ireland at McEnroe Construction Company. That was when Jorge gave her money, and then everything unfolded from there. "What is she doing there?" She gritted.
"I have no idea, but I know she's staying at Javier Mendoza's hotel, and the place has been heavily guarded since she arrived." That still did not explain why she was there. What did Esperanza have to do with Javier Mendoza? "There's been a lot of activities around here in the last few days, it appears that McEnroe Junior is planning something big."
Aaron? He was not backing out now, was he? "Okay, keep me updated," she said, making a mental note to call Aaron Jr soon.
"That's not the only reason I called you, there's something else you need to know."
"What is it?"
He exhaled into the phone. "Mrs Cooper has been spotted in Ireland, she's been meeting up in secret with Aaron Jr."
MJ frowned. That could not be, after everything Sandra told her about the McEnroes, she was the last person MJ expected to get involved with them. Why was she meeting up with the son of the man who killed her husband?
Hopefully she was not stupid enough to warn Aaron that MJ was coming after him, it was of no use because Aaron Jr would destroy him anyway.
"Thanks for letting me know, Liam. Take care," she said and hung up.
She had to call both Aaron Jr and Sandra respectively, she did not want Sandra to know that she was onto her.
But first, she had to see Sasha-Lee, she was the only person who could tell her what happened between Jorge, Kyle, and Logan that drove them apart, because no matter how far apart they were, there was still something that bound them, and whatever it was, it could not be good.
She did not want to imagine the worst, but maybe, just maybe Logan and Kyle knew exactly what happened to Jorge.
What if she was looking for the enemy while he was right under her nose?
