I awoke with a start and jolted upright, the door to my room slammed open, and in rushed Bram.
What happened? Are ye alright?
Fear and anger knotted inside me. My stomach clenched and unclenched as I tried to get my emotions calmed. I couldna talk right away, I wasna sure if I was safe yet. I only remember sittin’ there, in my bed, shakin’ from head to foot. My skin was clammy too.
Elspeth, tell me! Did ye see somethin’?
I looked at Bram. An icy fear twisted around my heart and panic like I’d ne’r known before welled in my throat. I replied in a wee frightened voice, “H-Him… he… touched me… Bram, it hurt.” I quickly looked at my gown to see if it was torn, but it wasna. It was a nightmare or was it? I couldna be sure. It felt so real.
