Six months later, Patricia was released from the hospital. When she arrived home, she realized they had moved all her stuff out of her room.
Patricia was calm and collected, and she asked her aunt.
“Aunt Annabelle, where is my stuff at?”
Betty replied; “Oh, we put your stuff in the attic.”
“Because cousin Keke is older than you, so we thought she should get the biggest room.”
“So we decided to move your stuff to the attic.”
Annabelle replied.
“So, where am I going to sleep at?”
Patricia replied,
“Well, since Keke got your room, and Peter has the third bedroom.”
“Your uncle and I got your mother and father’s bedroom.”
“Sorry, we didn’t know you were coming home today.”
“And all your stuff is in the attic.”
“Do you mind sleeping in the attic until we can get a bedroom ready for you?”
“Oh, before I forget to let you know, you’ll be going to a new school. Starting On Monday.”
“Because your uncle and I can’t afford to send you to your private school anymore. You will start going to school with your cousins.”
Annabelle replied.
“Okay, Aunt Annabelle. I think it will be okay tonight.”
Patricia went into the attic. She realized the attic was dark, dry, cold, and stuffy.
It had a dirty mattress thrown on the floor in a dark corner.
There was also two inches of dust on everything.
Patricia’s point of view
There weren’t any lights in the attic for me to see by.
They threw my stuff all over the floor.
They didn’t have the Decency to give me covers.
I went down the stairs to ask for a blanket.
Aunt Annabelle, Can I please have sheets and blankets for the mattress in the attic?
And do you have a light bulb for the attic?
Patricia asked
Here are some sheets, a pillowcase and a blanket.
No, we don’t have any light bulbs. But here are some candles and matches.
You can use it to help you see.
Annabelle replied,
Before I forgot where my clothes were at, I didn’t see any of my clothes in the attic.
The reason you didn’t see any of your clothes in the attic is we donated them to the Salvation Army.
But you can borrow some of your cousin’s clothes.
Until we take you shopping tomorrow.
Where are my mom and daddy’s clothes at?
Patricia reply.
We also donate your mother and father’s clothes to the Salvation Army too.
Patricia went back into the attic.
She started crying like a baby.
She tried to clean up the dust in the room.
And put the sheets and blanket on the mattress, so she can have somewhere to sleep for tonight.
She couldn’t stop crying. She was cold and scared.
She remembered what her mother and father told her.
If she ever felt lonely at night, all she had to do was hold her teddy bear.
So, she got up and looked for her teddy bear.
Patricia found her teddy bear
On the floor.
They’d be right there beside her, so she got out of bed to look for her teddy bear. She picked her beer tail up from off the floor and cried herself to sleep. She was cold the next morning. She woke up and realize she didn’t have anything to wear to school. She went downstairs to ask her aunt. Aunt Annabelle, what am I wearing to school today? I couldn’t find my clothes? Sorry baby, we had to donate your clothes to the Salvation Army to pay your hospital bills. Since your mother didn’t leave any money to take care of you, your uncle and I went to the salvation army to buy you some new clothes, so you can have something to wear on your first day of school. They gave her a bag with ten outfits all old and faded out.
Beep, the alarm clock went off
“I guess it’s time for me to get up?”
“My back hurts, and my body aches.”
“I’m still tired.”
“I’ve been up all night long mopping on my hands and knees, and scrubbing the walls and ceiling.”
