“Josh, we can buy more,” Keith agreed with a forced smile. Josh saw that his heart didn’t exactly leap for joy when the woman called Keith his father.
“Okay, I want this,” he surrendered in the end and put the chewing gum on the counter. “They’re all very tempting,” he added with a smile. He hoped that the cashier would get chatty with him, keep them there until somebody came looking for him. He knew that someone was on the way.
“I can assure you that all of them are very delicious! I’ve already tried them all,” her reassuring look filled Josh with courage. Meanwhile, Keith removed some bills from his pocket when the door opened again, but nobody stepped inside.
“I am dumbfounded …” the cashier said and came out from behind the desk again.
