Chapter 7: Tethered by the Moon The cave remained still as moonlight crept through the tangled ivy above. Lucian slept, his breath deep and slow. Aria stayed close, gently dabbing the blood from his side with the edge of her sleeve. The wound had already begun to heal—supernaturally fast—but not fast enough to outrun bullets. As night fell deeper, the world outside seemed to blur into one long exhale. Aria’s mind, however, raced. She had nearly lost him. The hunters were relentless. And though Lucian could survive wounds a human couldn’t, he was far from invincible. They were hunting him like an animal. And she couldn’t let them win. When he stirred, his eyes found hers instantly. “You stayed,” he murmured. “Of course I did.” He gave a weak, grateful smile. “The moon is nearly full. I can feel it calling.” Aria helped him sit up slowly, careful not to jostle his side. “Will it force you to change?” “Not yet. But tomorrow night… I won’t be able to stop it.
