Chapter 9: Breaking the Curse
The hunters hesitated, their rifles still poised but their faces showing uncertainty. Aria took a deep breath, stepping fully into the moonlit clearing.
“This curse has held Lucian captive for centuries,” she began, voice steady but impassioned. “But it’s not just a punishment. It’s a key—if we can unlock it, he can be free.”
One of the hunters, a woman with sharp eyes and a weathered face, stepped forward. “And how do you propose we do that, girl? Magic? Witchcraft?”
Aria shook her head. “Not magic. Love.”
The hunters scoffed. But Lucian, still in his wolf form, sat calmly beside her, his amber eyes never leaving hers.
“There’s an ancient ritual tied to the blood moon,” Aria continued. “If I can find the ingredients and perform it with Lucian’s consent, we might break the curse.”
The leader of the hunters, a tall man named Gideon, frowned. “If this goes wrong, it could make things worse.”
“I’m willing to take that risk,” Aria said firmly. “For him. For us.”
Gideon looked at Lucian’s wolf form, then back at Aria. Finally, he nodded. “Alright. We’ll help—on one condition. No more attacks on townspeople.”
Lucian’s human form shimmered back into existence, standing tall but visibly weakened. He extended a hand. “Agreed.”
The hunters lowered their rifles.
Aria’s heart surged with hope.
Over the next days, they gathered rare herbs, ancient symbols, and the silver moonstone said to amplify the blood moon’s power. The forest seemed to watch, holding its breath.
The night of the ritual arrived. Under the glowing blood moon, Aria and Lucian stood in the center of a circle drawn with salt and moonstone fragments.
Aria began the incantation, her voice steady and clear as the hunters stood guard.
As the ritual progressed, Lucian’s body began to glow softly—his curse unraveling with each word.
Suddenly, a violent wind whipped through the clearing, howling like a storm.
Lucian screamed—half man, half wolf—as the curse fought to hold on.
Aria pressed forward, refusing to stop.
With a final word, a brilliant light exploded, washing over them.
When it faded, Lucian stood before her—fully human, his eyes clear and free.
The curse was broken.
He looked at Aria, breathless and overwhelmed.
“I’m free,” he whispered.
Aria smiled, tears streaming. “No. We’re free.”
